Saturns = Sound - without the walnut blend Mapex is like any other kit.
DW = purity of tone. More than just sound.
SONOR = equal to DW in quality of tone

Then all the rest are about equal in value and sound quality.
I have been talking back and fort to ludwig dealer and a pearl dealer these past few weeks. For 6 pieces(minus snare), the price is almost identical. After reading most of your posts, I'm leaning towards Pearl. Thanks for all the infos.

Two things I recommend. Pick up the same size drum from each brand. Note which one is heavier.

Second, inspect the hardware. That sold me on the other half of the investment. Everything I purchased is excellent quality and very versatile in positioning, not to mention beautiful chrome finish that held up to a year of gigging at least twice a month.

Not sure, how I missed this thread when you first posted buy my oh my Bish those are some awesome kits you have had over the years.

You may have touched on this throughout the thread as I haven't had chance to read all posts but I noticed you said you kept the Pearls out of all the kits you have owned, are they just your personal faves or is it all about quality of sound/tone and hardware?

I also have to say that the finish on the Blue Saturns is unbelievably nice.

Thanks for taking the time to post that history Bish.

I'm sure it's as fun for us to read as it is for you to post and look back on your drum collection.

The choice to keep the Pearls was all of the above. Appearance. Tone. Quality of drum. Quality of Hardware. Cost. All in all it was the best overall bang for the buck.

    Ha, hi, butter.

To the best of my knowledge that is all of them.

I have one more kit than I'm bringing back from the dead but it's not ready for pictures, yet.

If it's any consolation, it was about a 5 year span. It cost me a Mustang GT to squelch the debt. I don't recommend doing what I did.
