    Default New Ride Cymbal.

    hey forumers,
i've had a Sabian B8 18" Medium Crash as my ride cymbal for a while now, and i'm considering getting myself a new, actual ride.
i'm looking for suggestions, possibly a ride cymbal that sounds different to the B8 medium crash as i would like to use that as my second crash and don't want it sounding too similar.
budget is anything under £150?? not much i know, but i believe there's some good stuff out there... i play kinda rock stuff so yeah.
    cheers guys!

My suggestion is taking a trip to your local music store to see which cymbals sound good to your ear and will sound good with your current set up, then start checking the internet for your selection.

Try out as many rides as you can and make a list of the ones you love, then get on the net and find one of them used - I think alot of guys are in agreement on this site that you should buy the best cymbals your money can afford otherwise you regret it in the long run.

Yes test many, many, and to match tonally your other cymbals. Some sites like Sabian and Paiste have pretty good soudn samples (to narrow down models and compare against one another). Some say you should start by matching your hats and ride first. To me, Sabian makes the most diverse choice of rides, and best value, but I use Paiste. And if you can, spend the most money you can, one at a time, rather than having to re-buy in the future.

+5 on used. you definitely get a much better selection. you could get yourself a really nice ride for 150 used. at least you can in the states.

The beauty of buying either new or used..is..if you do not like you can sell it if need be and experiment again..good well cared for instruments hold some value, sometimes half of new costs! I have had unusal luck in everything but one cymbal I bought online..and the one I speak of is not horrible, just not what I had expected, but I am keeping it...who knows it may serve a purpose for only but one song..good luck

I'm another fan of buying used. You save money, and typically have a better idea of what the cymbal really sounds like. I say this because cymbals will mellow over time.

    I agree 100%!

Very crashable ride. Washy overtones are kept to a minimuim. I've moved mine closer to my HiHat to give me a second alternative to my heavy "pingy" Paiste 24" Mega Power ride. I can reach the AAX 20" stage ride if I'm on my primary hats.
