I am going to be using smaller toms on a few gigs, a 10 rack and 14 floor only. I was wondering if any one had any ideas on a head choice that would give me a warmer deeper sound ,righrt now I have evans 2ply clear on top and 1 ply on the bottom and the pitch just wont come down.

I have a hard time getting a nice warm tone out of a 10" tom. Small toms have a real narrow tuning range. I suggest using a 12" for a warm sound. A 9x12 or 10x12, or even an 11x12, will still have enough difference from a 12x14, or a 13x14, or a 14x14 tom.

Maybe try a coated Remo Pinstripe on top and and Emperor on the bottom? (instead of an Ambassador). I dunno, as I prefer my toms with a bit of ring and higher pitch than most of my drummer mates.

I used clear Evans EC2s and clear Remo Ambassadors on the tom toms in this video:

... and Coated Ambassadors and clear Diplomats in this clip:

Plenty warm, I'd say! The toms are 10x8 and 14x12.

In this clip the toms are tuned a bit higher...

    ...and a bit higher still...

If that isn't enough tuning range for a 10" tom tom, I don't know what is!

Read post wrong. For 10-12-13-16" Toms I use Vintage Emperors. Sound great to me.
