So, im looking to make the switch to Evans, at least for one head change to see if i like them, and to see if they'll last me longer than my Remos do. I have decided on G2 Coateds for the toms and an EQ4 Coated for the bass, becuz i use the Remo equivalents now. i am having a little trouble deciding on a snare head. i use a Remo Emperor X snare head now becuz i like a nice crack to my snare. i am considering the ST Dry for durability purposes. suggestions?

I go to my local drum shop and purchase my sticks. I like to touch them before I buy them ;-)

Mmm man, I'm an evans guy myself, but I do really like remo for snare heads. Not much help other than saying you might wanna stick it out with remo ha!
Hey JSB, just came across this thread, awesome info mate!

ive been using Evans on both my kits. tried all kinds for my snares and never liked any of them. G2 sounded the best until i whacked all the sound out of it in 2 weeks. went out yesterday and picked up a Remo Vintage Emperor and all i can say is WOW whatta difference. a great snare head.
i have one on my 14 snare and i agree, great durable head.

How much different is the Vintage Emp. from the regular Emp?
And how do you think it would do on a cheapo snare?

Thanks for posting that chart!
From my time working in a drum shop I've noticed very little in common between the Onyx heads by Evans and the Black Suede heads by Remo. Respectfully, the only similarities would be the colors. The Onyx head seems to have a muffled sustain with rather defined stick definition, whereas the Black Suede Emperor has an abundance of warm sustain and a subdued stick attack.
I'd like to hear from the community if anybody has used these heads long-term and has a different review or opinion on them.
Until then, Tata!!
Thanx JSB this was definitely a sweet thread glad i found it
Just saw the thread. Thanks for posting this chart. I've always wanted to have a list to compare. I too mostly use Remo, but I'm moving over to Evans heads now and this list will help me out. Mucho Gracious JSB! Saved it to my Evernote so I'll always have this with me, when I'm shopping.

Confused about the measurements used. No drum head in the world is 7 milimeters thick. That would be almost like a 1/4 plywood.
all the best...
If someone (or many) wants to put the information here, I can update the original post.
