Since Remo doesnt have a head that is equal to the EMAD - I suppose listing the Evans EMAD in Coated white was not necessary? Since its the head I use on all 3 of my kicks - I wanted to mention it.

A mil is a thousandth of an inch, or about 1/39th of a millimeter.

    Makes more sense, no?

An example, 6 mil is the thickness of the vapor barrier ( plastic) that we use for covering insulation in residential homes or use on diy homemade green houses. No plywood is that thin. .

I thought I would add this information that I found in a chart which shows equivalencies between Remo and Evans heads. Post in this thread if you know of any updates that need to be made to the chart either for new heads or discontinued heads.

Also if you know about Aquarian heads then lets see those equivalencies too. If we all keep a full difinitive list up to date I think it will be very helpfull for any drummers who are wondering about head selection.

    Heres the list:

    Evans GPlus = Remo Ambassador X - 12mil Clear/Coated
No Evans equivalent = Remo Vintage A - 2-ply 7.5- and 3-mil Polyester Film Coated
    Evans G2 = Remo Emperor - 2 x 7mil Clear/Coated

Evans Snare Side Hazy 200 = Remo Diplomat Snare Side - 2mil Hazy
Evans Snare Side Hazy 300 = Ambassador Snare Side - 3mil Hazy

    Bass
    Evans EQ4 = Remo Powerstroke 3 - 10mil Clear w/Overtone Control Ring
Evans EMAD = No Remo equivalent - 10mil Clear w/EMAD Damping
Evans EMAD Onyx = No Remo equivalent - 10mil Matte Black Coated w/EMAD Damping
    Evans EQ3 = Remo Powerstroke 4 - 2 x 6.5mil w/Overtone Control Ring & Removable Muffle Ring
    Evans EMAD2 = Remo Powersonic - 1 x 6.5mil, 1 x 10mil w/EMAD Damping

When was the last time that this list was updated? If not, are there now a lot of new/discontinued head?
    Thanks :D

At 60 y.o. I'm learning to play drums at the urging of friends & family who've watched me pound dashboards & furniture since the 60's.

I'm clueless at tuning them to get the desired sound.
To complicate matters further, I can't read music.

I have a Neary Drum-Torque and would like to find recommended settings; (pounds; 0-25), for rock/general sound.

    I have Pearl drums:
    14" snare
    12" toms
    22" kick
    and a
    SP brand 14" floor tom

The snare is used, the rest are new. I used the guide I received with the Neary, and all but the snare were, .... just ok using those specs. The snare I tuned tighter assuming it had stretched with time.

I don't have a mentor or know any drummers, I'd like have them sound better.

    SUGGESTIONS, comments......-?

I prefer Remo's and my latest 2 purchases have really reinforced that. My new Tattoo skin snare drum head is really fantastic. I have only done one gig with it but it sounds fantastic and was very easy to tune up. Also I decided to finally try a coated bass drum head and WOW, I am blown away by the coated ps3. I have honestly never gotten soo many compliments and questions regarding my bass drum. This thing is a really nice low controlled boom and is the sound I have been looking for for a long time now. I highly recommend both of these heads. 20170325_102329.jpg

Decide whether this is love for the craft or simply an ego thing
