    Default Yamaha DD-55 fan!

    Hello, y'all.

I'm new here. I bought a Yamaha DD-55 a few months back and I love it.

I'm actually a guitarist who's learning the drums and picked this up to learn on.

Any other owner's out there? Any tips? What are your likes or dislikes?

Any info you care to share would be greatly appreciated!

    Nuff said.

    Cool Re: Yamaha DD-55 fan!

    Olds...welcome to drumchat....
    I have a yamaha dd50
and i downloaded my manual online
    @ yamaha's website...

I got it from one of my drum brothers
(drummer from mid 80's band "keel")
as we have traded off snares.sold cymbals,
    and bassdrum pedals,,,,,

i was lookin for an "epad" for a recording project
and he found it on da floor of his closet!!!!

It was one of the 1st made and has its limitations
    but it has been a great tool and a groove toy;
as well as a bizarre edition to my already
"out of da box" approach to drumming projects
i get called to do these days...
"FEEL DA GROOVE & PLAY IT FORWARD..."

"BEAUTY IS IN THE EARS OF THE BEHOLDER ,
ENJOY IT ALL,,, MY BROTHERS & SISTERS"

    COMMANDER & CHIEPH OF
    "PHROGGE'S AQUARIAN ARMY"

    LEGEND IN MY OWN MIND
    & FORCE BEHIND DA
"PHX AZ LEGEND OF DA ZYDECO GROOVE VEST"
(AND OTHER TOYZ) INCLUDING PIZZABOX SNARE DRUM

IT'S ALL ABOUT DA SHOW !!!!!

I just picked up a dd55 a few weeks ago and I'm now trying to figure out what to do with it. I play congas, bongos and a cajon and I'm using the foot pedals to play bass drum, and some of the other voices in it. I guess I'll figure it out as I go.. but yes, it sounds pretty good!!

i have a dd65 its a nice toy, but its NOTHING like playing drums for real, it does nothing good for your muscle memory. with all the pads so close together,it not like playing drums, its just a toy,you would do much better learning on a cheap drum set . but for a toy its kinda fun.

I did something kind of different with mine the other day. I took a piece of 1/2" plywood about 9" wide and 12" long or so. I set the foot pedals on it about an inch or so apart at one end then traced around them. I then cut on the traced lines with a jig saw, and then glued a piece of 1/8" plywood to the bottom. The pedals are now velcro'ed to the "pockets" that I created. Because I am coordination challenged, I can set the whole thing at my right foot and choose which pedal I use and dial in the voicing. Now I have different sounds to use with my feet while I play hand drums. The pedal assembly can't get kicked around cause those pedals are pretty light weight, and they are always where I want them. Cheezy, but it works for me. My next move will be to buy a hi-hat, but I got my DD55 at a pawn shop at a modest price. It was a good deal for what it is and fine for the time being.

Olds cool63; I'm a guitar player primarily and drumming is adding another dimension. I did some surfing looking at things I could add with my feet and found some stuff about stomp boxes that use e drum triggers and amps. The DD55 works great for that and gives me experience with drum voices. I'm guessing that all of the serious drummers are rolling their eyes just like we do at someone who is playing guitar on anything less than a Martin, Taylor or the like. All all music, and it's all good!!
