The other part to that question is, what module do you have and which jack are you plugging it into? Not every jack is compatible with dual-zone triggers.

Yea...I'm assuming he has a DTXplorer...if so, input 1 is 3 zone, inputs 5 & 6 are 2 zone...and the rest are mono...however your kick input can be split for 2 mono inputs...(see manual pg. 8)...

Where are you plugging it in? If you're using the jack behind the kick pad, that is a single-zone input. There are only two jacks that'll allow you to use the dual-zone capability of that pad; 5 (RIDE) and 6 (CRASH). Anything else will work as single-zone only.
