Cool What do you look for in a kit?

Ok, so when you are going to purchase a kit, or just looking around and such, what sort of things do you look for in deciding what makes a good kit, what makes a bad kit, what is good value for money, how can you pick durability etc...?

Personally, I look at build quality and material quality....the hoops, the shell material, overall appearance of the kit, the hardware and its features (i.e., do the hardware adjustments have memory locks, are the legs double-braced, etc)....I already have DW kit, so, for me, there's no place else to go except a NEW DW kit. Are you looking for something in particular?

All jokes aside I agree with BTG.. I look for quality, Type of wood, ply depth, any fillers use between a ply. Are the shells "true" and round? Beveled edges, are they smooth? Hardware, is it double braced? or does it look like your boom stand would fall over if somebody farted? Just some things I look into when buying a kit

Quality of wood, the sound, hardware, last thing I care about is the looks.
I really wish that we could actually show the pictures in here...

it is an instrument so first and foremost is SOUND. durabilty is the next thing i look for. durability counts for everything from the hoops and lugs to the mounting system to the finish quality. will this kit take 1000 teardowns and setups? looks and price are also important, but at the bottom of the list of priorites for me

well i was lucky in the sense that when i bought my kit i really did not know what i was looking for besides sound. i told my teacher what i was looking for regarding sound and he advised me on the rest, about quality etc. i am very glad i listened to him.

I look for Tonality, how much sustain the drums produce, how long they resonate, craftsmanship, finish quality, ease of set-up, those are really my main things I look at, I want a drumset that sings when I hit them, that look beautiful and that are built to last, I also want the drums to set-up however I decide to set them up with no restrictions, thats what I look for.
