    Default New guy saying Hi!!!!

    Hi everyone,
I've been lurking for a couple days waiting for activation. I have already learned quite a bit skimming the info here. I am 34 and have been playing (more so making noise) a little over 4 years. I've never had a lesson but can read music (somewhat) and play by ear to the stereo/cd's.

My influences are Lars Ulrich, Nicko McBrain and recently Neil Peart.
when I heard Metalica- ONE for the first time (when it came out) I knew my calling it just took til '06 for my first kit.
    (see username^)

I just bought my first double pedal 2 weeks ago- a Tama Speed Cobra and my feet are resisting my brain.

Anyway, I look forward to hanging out and learning.

oh, my kit is a cheesy Groove Percussion 5 piece I bought used. Old hats are my crashes, +1-16" GP crash, 18" pearl ride/crash, 14" pearl hats, 1 8" slpash and a leather Tama throne with the Speed Cobra.
    thanks!

Welcome to Drum Chat Landmine! I'm guessing the weather was nice in SoCal today.

You definitely came to the right place, because the folks here are great about sharing experience, and offering encouragement when needed. I have been playing close to the same amount of time that you have been playing, and the good people here have really advanced my understanding. Now it's just a matter of making sure my technique catches up with my understanding!

Sounds like you're on your way, LM. Hey, I too purchased a cheap set of Groove Percussion and currently use them when I play in our church band. They work just fine....especially in the pocket book. Rock on !

    Hey, Landmine! Welcome aboard!

I was 32 when I began studying drumming in 1984, and I have never regretted it. I prefer hand drums to kit playing, but I enjoy both.

Keep in mind we all start somewhere, and, IMHO, you've found the best place to get advice and support (not to mention some very cool people!).

No need to lurk anymore, bro'!

May I add you have excellent taste in music.
The passion for drumming matters far more than the equipment, play the heck out of what you have and enjoy every minute. Cheers!

Welcome to DrumChat Landmine! It's great that you got yourself a kit from the get go. I started out with just a snare until I moved out of my parents home to attend college. I was chomping at the bit to finally piece my first kit together. I'm up north from you so it's good to see another drummer from down south of the state.

Hi Landmine, and welcome to the forum.
