It is the most amazing snare head I have ever heard. I had just changed heads on my old kit and sold it with them. When I got my new set i went to get one and they were out of stock. I bought a remo out of need and cant wait till it is dead so I can get another HD genera dry. Awesome head!
I always get confused between the HD Dry and the Genera HD. I've used one of 'em and liked it a lot. The other was too dry for me though...
Now I use AQUARIAN Texture Coated as my head of choice...except when I find coated G-1's on sale for $5...
I had the evans genera dry head and i was really impressed with the sound of that once i learned how to properly tune. I bet the hd is even better than that one.
What i really want to try is a evans hybrid batter over a hazy 300 reso. Cant wait for that, but i guess ill be banging on remos for a while, since i just got them the week after christmas and theyre sounding great right now.
So itchie, how did the kick sound?

Evans came out with a drumset counterpart to it. According to them it has a nice fat sound, which is what im looking for, but its also got the attack and bite that rock drummers need. I can't wait to get it.
Im using an ambassador on my snare (i forget the resos, so forgive me here), clear pinstripes on all of my toms, and a powerstroke 3 batter/reso on my kick. The powerstroke is exceptional if you tune it right imo; its like the hybrid head, fat and deep but with nice slap and attack to it. I stufded two old sweatshirts in it, two regular hoodies, size mens large lol. The pins take time to break in which is why theyre starting to sound great now.

Congrats on finding that head polygonguy. When I was looking for my second kit, I played a Gretsch Catalina Maple kit in a local store. I absolutely fell in love with the sound of the snare. I didn't realize it at the time, but the store had replaced the stock snare with the Evans Genera HD Dry head. That's the one on my Catalina snare now, and I couldn't be happier with it's sound.

I use the ST Dry, which I LOVE!
Not familiar with the ST...I will have to research it!
Ok, so it looks like the ST Dry is a bit thicker 2-ply than the HD Dry. But the HD Dry has an overtone control ring...interesting. I am currently a single-ply guy, but I love experimenting.
IMO Single Ply is the way to go. easier to reduce ring with moongels than have an already dampened head. That being said, I am currently using a PS3 head on my snare, which has a built in dampeneing ring and i love it. I would however like the freedom of being able to tune my drum to any sound i desire.
I had the Genera Dry on a snare i borowed from a step brother and i loved it. Definitely an awesome head.

I use the HD dry and think it sounds great, solid attack and crack to the snare. I want to use an ST dry just to see if I can stop tuning my batter up so tight.
