What would be the minimum equipment you would bring to a gig? I would assume this would include your most versatile or most used sounds. This is obviously dependent on the music style you are playing. Curious on your thoughts.

    For me:

    Tambourine.
    Cowbell.
    Shaker.
Maybe a Conga as it tends to blend well.

    Welcome aboard, SnareTan!

Good start ya got there--but I would add a pair of bongos and another conga to play off. They don't take up much more space than what you got, and you can get a few more sounds out of them. And, if you're into adding an African or world-beat sound on some of your tunes, you might consider a djembe (either in addition to or in place of the bongos or the second conga)...

Are you adding this to your existing drum kit or are you getting started as a hand drummer? Either way, that pretty well covers the basics.

    Good luck, bro'!
keep the beat goin' ... Don't keep it to yourself!

My personal favorite is the Surdo (20" - 22"). This is not just for Samba only.

Another alternative is a 18" floor tom for fat bass beats.

Yeah, you could cover just about anything (I would think) with those instruments. As far as a minimum drum kit setup, I would bring a snare, BD, hi hat.

The ultimate would be a band playing nothing but Irish music and maybe "Celt-ified" covers of songs by Irish bands. Then all you need is this....

Although if you play Middle Eastern or other ethnic gigs you can use the bodhran somewhat as a douf....after all, they're all frame drums. Maybe add one of these too...

I've covered all types of gigs with the minimal set up because of room aload. Mostly a 16x18 kick/5x14 snare/ hi hats/ one combo ride/crash! Basicly the rhythm section of the drum kit. Doc.
