    Default Sonor 4 piece

I set my Sonor kit up as a 4 piece. I have to admit I am having a blast playing it. I took a set of Kasza 13" R series hi-hats and an R series 20" medium thin ride home from The Drum Shop today to demo them to see if I want to buy them. The two A Custom Crashes I borrowed from my other kit. I'll eventually be getting two new crashes so I don't have to switch back and forth. I'll probably go with Kasza there as well. Very good sounding cymbals at a great price.

It's nice having both kits side by side. Right now I'm favoring the smaller kit.

That's a snappy lookin' rig... what are the sizes on that setup?

That bass drum looks deep. What's the size? Looking good.

Nice kit. Polar opposite from your other set-up.

5x14 snare, 22x20 kick, 12x8 tom, 14x12 Fl. tom. I also have a 16x14 Fl tom that I'm not using. I've been tempted to add it but I want this kit to stay small. I may start playing out again and if I do this is the kit I'll be using so I want to get comfortable with it the way it is now. I may add an 8" splash and a cowbell but that's it.

A couple years ago, I found myself playing an old Sonor bop kit for a while and then with an added floor tom (sort of Bonham-on-a-bop kit), after playing a 7-9 piece. It was alot of fun and more of a challenge than I had thought it was, learning to phrase without a mess of toms in front of me.
It's very healthy to re-configure once in a while to stretch your brain as well as your body, IMO.
BTW, that's a really nice kit and config. No wonder your having fun! Gotta love Sonor kick drums!
    Proudly playing:

    A bunch of snares
    A bunch of cymbals

    Off-Set double pedals

I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!

Very nice. I recently became the owner of the bop kit, very different from my experience with a 2 up 2 down configuration, and before that a 3 up 2 down. The phrasing on a 1 up 1 down kit does take translation, but the feel is much more intimate and can be really fun.

Looks very nice. Seems like you could fit that kit almost anywhere too. There's something about a 4 piece that screams playability to me.

Playing the 4 piece I find myself doing a lot more work on the snare then I do on my big kit. I'll take a fill that I would do across 4 or 5 toms on my big kit and do it right on the snare only on the 4 piece, tossing in accents/flamms at different points. It's definitely a different style of playing.
