    Default mallets for a drumset?

hi. i am wondering what kind of mallets i should get for a drum set. i've only used rods, brushes, and sticks. but i was thinking of getting mallets for cymbal swells and stuff. i use pro-mark. i am asking because there are so many kinds of mallets for marching band and orchestral stuff.

Really anything that feels good to you and gives you your desired sound. There are no rules per se. I use a medium thickness felt mallet that will roll soft enough on the cymbals but still give me some attack on the drumheads. And I like a taper to the stick. I use ones with wooden handles.

Mine are the old schoool mallets used years ago for marching bands. They are a wooden handle with a large tip on one end and the other end is felt.

We used them while playing tennors and tri toms. Like drummer said, not too harsh for cymbals but heavy enough for the drums.

A pair of timpani mallets sounds like a good fit for what you are looking for.

I go to my local drum shop and purchase my sticks. I like to touch them before I buy them ;-)
