Welcome aboard blacknzr! I think that "problem" is something that comes along the territory more than anything, many of us find it necessary to continue upgrading or changing our gear to the next best thing. Not to worry, it's perfectly normal.

Thanks Russ! I've never recorded with my Stage Customs. I actually just started putting it together last summer, and even though I've been playing for about twenty years now, it's the only drum set I've owned since the JC Penny's cheapo set I got in the 8th grade! So it's good to finally own a decent kit.

I've been trying to assemble it on a budget, so I'm always scouting for deals on used gear. (My favorite so far: nabbing a near mint Zildjian Special Dry Ride on eBay for about $100.) I'm finding it's really difficult to expand a Stage Custom set with matching pieces because Yamaha tweaks the design every few years.

Which leads me to a question.... (I'll start a new thread to ask it so I don't ruin the vibe of this one.)

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone!

Russ - I'm loving the Mapex Falcon, I did a lot of research on what would be a good pedal before I made my decision and it seems to have paid off - it was fast right out of the box. Really fast. All I need now is to keep at it and control it a bit better, my feet want to go faster than my brain is telling them!

Ode.....Jerry Gaskill? Hell yeah! Kings-X? You soooo need to meet a bassist mate of mine here in Sydney some time, Rick. He's a huge Doug Pinnick fan.

If I'm ever heading over there I'll try to remember that and arrange it - I LOVE Kings X, have done for years. Actually made it to see them live this year and they rocked, hope they come back again sometime soon.

How did you find Drum Chat? Was googling round for pedal reviews and stumbled across Drum Chat, there seemed to be a lot of knowledge here so added it to the favourite list

There ya go. So I'm trying to get back into drumming, I played a bit when I was younger but not seriously. After about 20 years without a kit, I bought a TD4K to practice without annoying the neigbours, and I'm hooked again. Been playing for about two months now and it's starting to feel right again. I've just upgraded to a Mapex Falcon double pedal, never played double before and I'm loving it, it's a lot of fun. Oh, and did I mention my brother also plays? And my dad too. Maybe there's like some sort of drumming gene in this family. They both play old Premier Olympic kits, my dad has two of them, and I was nicely surprised when they both tried my funny little V-kit and loved it

Anyway, I'll shut up now. Just wanted to say hello. This is a great site, well done everyone. So friendly!

Who is your Favorite Drummer? ouch - too hard to choose. gun to head i'd say bonham
Are you in a band? not right now
Do you see dead people? no. but if someone were to hurt my family or friends it's a possibility
How did you find Drum Chat? google search on pearl iss mounts

i have played since i was about 13. my dad played and one day i popped in an 8 track of the doors and stones and just started playing. my mom thought it was my dad and my dad didn't know what to think so they rushed in and there i was jamming. i have had a few lessons but mostly self taught. i am a chameleon (sp?). i do impressions of people and my drumming is the same. if i hear it enough i can copy it. maybe not exact, but close enough that if i were to play it in a cover band only a few drummers would know what was missing.
i posted the following in another thread but it gives the basics so i guess it's worth copying and pasting here:
i just started playing again after a long break. i used to work for g.c. down in hallandale florida forever ago and had a bunch of drum gear that all had to go when i moved up to GA. i only kept my dad's 72 ludwig ringo kit - that's never going any where - and some cymbals. i sold in no order, a bonham vistalite re-issue, a pearl sessions (maple/mahogony/maple) 5 pc. in mirror chrome, a yamaha maple custom snare, more zildjians than i can bring myself to talk about including a 20" k custom dark ride (that i loved dearly) and a pair of 15" a mastersounds hi hats which they no longer make (i am sad to find out).
so i just bought a used gretsch catalina rock mahogony (i think) kit. 13, 16, 18, 24 with a matching 14x6.5 snare. i still have a ludwig 14x5 supra. i use all pearl single brace harware - i love the lightness when gigging. i have all a series zildjians, a pair of 13" quick beat hats, a 20" med ride, 16" medium thin, 18" medium, 18" medium thin.
when i get the kit re-headed and the cymabls clean i will put some pics up. money is tight and the kit is a luxury right now as i am in no shape playing wise after this long a break to join a band and gig and try to make it pay for it self so it will be a few weeks before pics.
any way that's my story and i'm sticking to it.
the following is a pic of me from about 99/00 with the pearl and some of the zildjians.
