Favorites depend on genre but overall Vinne and/or Gadd.
Kinda in-between bands. Finishing up with one and starting a new one.
Heard about DC from a teacher and from looking online.

How did you find Drum Chat? - Google searched 'drumming forum'. Believe it was the second link down.
I joined up as I was hoping I could get a bit of advice.
I don't play although I've always shared such a strong interest in the world of drumming. I think what kick started it was funnily enough Rock Band. Since then I've always loved watching drummers especially at gigs.
About a couple of months ago I went round my second cousins house. He is a talented 17 year old drummer. He has quite an expensive Roland kit and he let me on it for a couple of hours. He didn't show me anything as such but what was 2 hours of me hitting random pads felt like 5 minutes. Unfortunately, I haven't been round since as he's always busy.
So, since then all I've been left with are a couple of old Travis Barker drum sticks, a practice pad and my imagination. I've constantly been hitting the pad, the pillow, improving my wrist and technique.
But I'm genuinely lost from here are in. I've been dead close to buying an e-kit. The Roland HD-3 is probably the only one I've been closely watching as it's within my price range but it's still alot of money to be spending on something I can't even 'play' as such yet.
So I'm left with the decision of buying it and learning myself. How hard/enjoyable it'll be and whether I'd stick at it. I don't think I'd have any lessons so I'm not sure how much that will have an impact on it but hey, I've seen so many video lessons, books, podcasts etc out there?!
Anyways, thanks for reading. Hope to hear from some of you soon.![]()

Buy a book or dvd and a metronome(an app will work) and work on your basics. From there you'll be able to tell if you have an aptitude for it. Then, if you're still interested, buy a beater kit and practice, practice, PRACTICE!!! And remember, you can have all the chops in the world but if you can't lock down a groove, you won't last long.
Good Luck!!
Welcome to drumchat Luke! It's great to have you aboard. Congratulations on choosing to learn drumming(I hope), it is something quite rewarding in the long run. Make sure you check out the video selection we have in the drum videos area of the forums, located at the bottom of the main page.

Welcome to drumchat Julia, great to have you aboard! Sounds like an awesome set you have, can't wait to see pictures of it posted up. So you're a pretty hard worker with bands, that's very cool I respect the ambition. Those are some awesome drummers you listed, I like them all a lot too. Sorry to hear about your gig troubles, but maybe things will pick up soon?

Hey guys, this site is awesome first off, so thanks for having me.
Here goes... I'm a professional drummer, I play a Mapex Saturn, with a Black Panther Brass Cat snare, I use my Roland SPD-SX sampler a lot, I often use drum triggers for pop gigs and that kind of thing. I have a 20 and 18" bass drum in the same finish, so I can change my setup for different gigs and sessions.
Controversially to some I absolutely love the 'gospel' drummers that have all the big pop gigs (and before anyone argues about calling them that, by gospel I mean that they grew up playing in the church, which seems to have a strong influence on their development). I also love Vinnie, and Jack Dejohnette and Jojo Mayer, to name but a few.
I've done a lot of random gigs, from live rap gigs to playing a trad dance festival (about 10 years ago, as of writing...). I have a degree in jazz, which was a fun few years, and drumming has literally lead me to see dolphins, and sea turtles and travel to four different continents so far!
I've drummed for just under 18 years, and I'm currently 26... Other likes include cooking, snowboarding, skydiving, paragliding and skateboarding (the last of which I gave up due to the career risk)...
For contemporary playing, I'm all about the hybrid kit. I like being able to make electronic sounds, but electronic drums don't do it for me :-D, and used them every night on a gig for 5 months once, so I know quite well how I feel.
Acoustic drum kits have souls!
Anyway, thanks in advance for the drum chat!
