    Default OCDP Avalon kit

A couple years ago I went to the local GC to pick up a new kit, intending to get a 4pc Pearl Masters w/a 24" kick. While noodling around on it, making sure it was what I really wanted, I also played the OCDP Avalon kit they had sitting out. I was impressed, and the fact that I got three more drums for about $300 less, I got the OC kit. Tom sizes are 10-12-14-16, and the kick is 22x20, along w/a matching 14x6-1/2 snare. It's my first maple kit, and it's been the best kit I've ever owned. Not only do I love the sound, I've gotten compliments at every show and in every studio on how good they sound, and how easy it is to get a great sound out of them.

As far as the skins I use on them, I've used Evans Gplus and EC2 on the toms (currently using the EC2's) and EMAD on the kick, w/the smaller muffling ring, and a 4" hole for a mic in the resonant head. That's the only muffling I use on the kick, and the 'boom' I get from it is amazing. The only times I've ever muffled the toms is in low-volume gigs, where I would use moongel on the floor toms.

The only drawback I've experienced so far is that, as far as I know, you can't get other toms--I'd love to have an 18" tom with this.

I've heard some people crack on the Avalon b/c it's "stock" instead of custom, but I've had nothing but compliments everywhere I take this kit, and that's what really matters.

i've been eye balling that kit for a long time, they never have it at any store around here, so my only resource is the internet to look for reveiws, and theyre either really good, or really bad. but its hard to find a kick thats 20x22, and the pictures look really good. thank you for posting this reveiw!! i think you helped me make up my mind! and welcome to drum chat!

An 18" floor tom is a monster and is difficult to tune. Save your money and get another snare instead.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! Should have a pic up soon...

greenmonster...yeah, 18's are tough to tune, but worth it IMO. And I have enough snares. At least that's what I tell myself when I see a new one I want...so hard not to have a shed full of snares...
