    I'll start!

I don't what it is about this guys drumming, but he's totally changed the way I've looked at drums recently. He's right the in the pocket, very groovy.

Haha I was around 5 or 6 years old when I saw the movie "Tarzan". I got to a see a video of Phil Collins making the music, and I saw him on the drums and said "I want to do that". Shortly after I started playing in church. My all-time favorite drummer

I guess his name was Steve Thomas for the band Shooting Star. Thier song "Last Chance" is just an awsome drumming song...to me and always loved the energy from it.

Peter Chris from Kiss is also another insparation.

You have to understand, that my background did'nt allow me to take up drumming when I was young. It was only recently that I was able to pursue this passion. I'm 41 and have been playing for about a year now. But the above drummers were early insparations that I've not forgoten about. Theres just so many great drummers out there, current and past.

Well, there are better technical drummers out there. As well as drummers with as good or better technique, but as far as his song arrangements, and the way he musically incorporates his technique into every one of their songs. There are not to many that can do this better. His drumming is just so smooth and precise, not to mention that he hits harder than most realize. My inspiration has to be Neil Peart. Always has been and probably always will be.

For me it's definately Dave Grohl. Not just because he hits with such power and control, but also because he's an all round muso. The guitar, the voice, the attitude.....he's a bloke after my own heart. I identify with the way he does things and I must say I'm even a bit jealous of what he's made of his life, especially after Nirvana.

I remember hearing Phil Collins do the opening fill on In The Air Tonight, and I couldn't help but start air drumming. That was 20 years before I decided to scratch the drumming itch, but I am sure the die was cast.

The other drummer was Nick Mason. He caught my attention by being so rock solid at slower tempos, and how he played to the song. Pink Floyd's sound was about that lead guitar, and Nick Mason supported that sound without even over playing.

Amazingly, I have learned that about kits too. I still love my Catalina 6 piece, but for now I am playing a Catalina Elite 4 piece Jazz kit, and I really do find it very intuitive to play. Yep, it appears that less is indeed more, IMHO.

Philip Gould from the band LEVEL 42.

I was given a copy of the live LP - A Physical Presence by a bass player band mate of mine in 1985.

I really loved the drumming on it. It instantly changed how I listened to music as a whole and how I approached drumming. Up until then I was so jammed into a "rock" paradigm - and rarely played anything outside an eighth-note groove as it was in the middle of the hair-band age.

Still one of my favorite albums of all time.

Zigaboo, from The Meters. When I first heard them/him, I was so into bop, I held backbeats in high contempt. 2 and 4 was something to be played by my left foot...maybe. But Zigaboo brought my back to the light of the Backbeat and made me realize how important a solid groove was to any song/style.

Joey Jordison. At first I liked Slipknot because of guitar but once I got into them a bit more I watched Joey's drum cams from Disasterpieces and it took off from there.

Hey man, another Phil Gould and Level 42 fan....very cool!

Jeez, I'm a fanboy of many drummers and many styles, damn it's hard for me to pick, it truly is. But the guy who inspired me first?

The very first one? Lars ulrich. But since then there have been many, MANY more and ulrich doesnt really do it for me any more. But listening to master of puppets, metallica and ride the lightning over and over and over took me away, when i was younger.
