Question Beginners' "essential" Stick Control pages to focus on?

OK, I borrowed a copy of Stick Control (*) to get a feel for the book.
    Lotsa stuff!

I would like to know which "essential" pages a beginner should focus on, and why?

(*) hehe, surprise, another drumming icon from Boston area!

The first page with music. Because it is the foundation for the whole book. See how fast you can do each line.

    Wow, interesting.

Funny, the tech guy in me is trying to derive some symmetry out of it, you know, to simplify things, which would defeat the purpose..

When I taught lessons, I'd require my students to do the first section. I found I became addicted to them and went through the whole book. That first page would become the competition, as to who could do them all faster.

Singles, doubles, and flams! The rest are all variations/ combonations of those three.

I've had this book for at least two years and I'm still trying to knock out page one. 20 times per line at varying tempos has kept me busy!

I've owned this book now for as many years as I can remember and I can't recall ever playing , singles and doubles aside , the exercises strictly as written - well, not the the first few pages , anyway.
