A while back, I took my snare into a shop and had them put on new heads and wires, and tune it. I told the owner of the drum shop to do whatever he wanted/felt would work best on it. As far as the wires, he put on a Rhythm Tech Active Snare System. To me, the snare never sounded better. Here's the link to see it. It really controls the snare buzz problem. Look into it, their cheap $20-$30.

If you want to completely eliminate "sympathetic vibration" in your snare drum...take up the guitar. It's the nature of the beast.

the snares do that if they are loose, if u don't like the sound of really tight snares then wut i do is tape down the edges of the wires like by the rim and that helps alot without tightening the snares...and if u do like the sound of a tight snare but u just can't tighten it that much then get creative...i devised a way to crank tighten the wires like with one of those things that u use to tighten a barbed wire fence
[Moon Gel] I have this stuff and it works quite well
The closer to the center of the drum head you put it the more it dampens

I use the moon gell on all my toms including the snare. Love this stuff. I also use the dampening rings from aquarian because I still have the cheepo stock single ply heads on the toms.

What is this moon gel. I heard it thrown about a time or two now. Maybe the snare is overtightened and needs to be replaced to fix the buz? Its happened to me before.

Moon Gels are like a sticky pad that eliminate unwanted resonance from your heads.

Well, they say you can put it wherever you like to change the pattern of resonance. But I've only seen them used on the batter side of the drum.

Well, I'm guessing that you shouldn't hit them. But I'm pretty sure they would be fine. They have the same consistency as Gummi Bears or something.

Can't vouch for just any music store - wouldn't want you driving to one on my say so only to find out they don't have it - but any of the big online music stores seem to carry it (Musician's Friend, Guitar Center, Sam Ash, etc.).Originally Posted by Stevo42w

Stevo, that's exactly what I did. I bought other things through Musician's Friend before, and everything went well. Unfortunately, this order didn't go as well. Bought different stuff for my brother and me, and everything went fine except for the drums. They should have shipped two boxes and apparently only one was actually shipped, but they're making good on it. It's just going to take a little longer.Originally Posted by Stevo42w
I seems to me that I've heard others that have had positive experiences, although some live close to a Sam Ash store, or a Guitar Center so can pick up stuff directly.
I ordered my Pearl kit from Guitar Center and they told me it would take 2-3 weeks because of my custom snare. They were in perfect condition and set up in my living room 9 days later. Now that's a good online shopping experience!

I found that loosening the skins around the wire on the bottom skin helped a little.
