Wow, that way is kinda expencive too dont you think?
But i guess its better than 600$ for the tama ones
Hey, I don't know. I just saw this website and thought well, it was essentially what this guy wanted to do. It's a starting place anyway, I'm sure you could customise the way you go about doing it, just use this as a guideline. The end results though doing it this way look damn professional, so it's probably a good way of going about it.
EDIT: Not including a stand, and using a rough estimate of how much you would need, i came up with about $250 US, so that is a darn site cheaper than buying ones from Tama or Pearl. It would depend of course on how you wanted it though, like some guys on there have gotten custom paint, others have used clear and coloured plastics, so it depends. At least this way you could have it however you wanted. One guy on there for example had only three, instead of two or four. Another guy had 9 - so this way it is comepltely customised to how you want it.

Thanks for that website because that had some sources I could try. I could probably build them during the summer, because it shouldn't take that long. I heard that they're fun to play because you can make a scale with them, but they are definitly not worth spending $600's.
Thanks again
I think those could be fun to make also.

Well, in theory, I suppose you could make them for any skin size available - so technically you could also make them in 10" 12" 13" etc... However, traditional they are 6" - plus you would need to find the right size tubing for another skin size on your own.Originally Posted by Stevo42w

I need a converter. Coz im an apprentice sparkie there are spare parts laying around as scraps. Like 100mm conduit and stuff. From old really really big jobs done around the area. Of course plumber pipes and stuff too........ What do the lengths do though? Would you get 3 or 4 different lengths and have the same skin tensions or what? Coz i understand they get differetn sounds. I dont understand how

I've heard that 8" are commaon too.Originally Posted by Stevo42w
Longer tubes have more of a wood like hollow sound. I was thinking of doing four different lengths. There are also a lot of groups of 2 or 8

Eh, thats kinda risky, spend 250 and do it yourself, with the chances of messing up
Or spend 350 more and know that you wont mess up, but spend a lot more money
Hmmmmm
All you can do is crack the plastic........ If you have access to a fine tooth bandsaw i would guess that would fix that problem. Just cut it really slowly and you will be fine :>

As for skin tensions, I believe you tune them to tensions with an even pitch change between each drum or tune it to a scale or just random notes. If people tune to notes, I have heard that they could play a little bit of (melody or melodie: I don't know which) to songs with their octobans. Ive heard that they're not useful for playing with a band but that they are a real fun accesory, but if your're real good you could help songs with them. I personally think they would just be a blast to play even if it is just for fun.
So if you had the cash... You could set up a while octave of notes (12 off memory) and then play the melody to a song incorporated into your beat! :P i paton the idea!!!!!!
:P if only.
