    Default Mapex Pro M birch

A buddy of mine from the band A Lot Like Birds is selling his kits, one of em is custom made, the other is a 5 pc mapex pro M. 10, 12, 14, 16 and 22, no snare. He said they retail at about 900 or so, and he is selling it to me for 300. He is a very knowledgeable drummer, and very talented. Anyways, does anyone know how these kits sound? any pros or cons with hardware etc? Thanks!

Fantastic kits, in their days of production they were worth twice what he suggests they retail for. I sure love mine, despite being a thinner kind of shell they still have plenty of volume to work with. Make sure the kit is in good condition, but 300 is an excellent deal on these! The tom mounts are a unique behind the lug isolation design, which is both lightweight, improves resonance, and doesn't require readjustment to remove the drum heads. Most of the finishes are lacquers, and some are lacquer fades. Tougher to find nowadays now that they've been replaced by Meridian maples. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Looks like the 'no snare' thing won't even be an issue with the Pork Pie beauty you've got listed in your sig!

Just make sure you go and check them out, inspect hardware, shells, heads, bearing edges, mounts, etc first. 300 is kind of a suspicious price to have something at, so there may be some flaws that will need work done later on down the line. Wait and see what's up first.
