What are the benifits..... looking to sign my son up, and also going to the PASIC show...

It's the Percussion Arts Society. They are the guys that also help to set out, finalise and notate the 40 PAS Rudiments which are a good standard to judge one's rudimental skill and control. I'm not a member (I don't know, do they have an Australian chapter?) but PASIC (Percussion Arts Society International Convention) is held every year over there in the U.S. ... whenever I get a copy of Modern Drummer they have one issue in the year where they cover the artists featured in every PASIC meet. PASIC have all sorts of U.S. and international artists and educators across the whole vast spectrum of drum and percussion styles giving performances and workshops. I heard that our very own Grant Collins is going to be there this year, if he is, do yourself a favour and go see him, he's like the Terry Bozzio from Down Under!

Russ....far from being elitist. PAS was set up to help spread the word not only about drum and percussion education, but as a way of introducing a whole spectrum of drumming and percussion styles (plus their respective players) to a whole audience of drummers, from beginners to professionals, young and old, of all backgrounds. They'd like it to be inclusive, not exclusive, as there are workshops you can attend and so on. That's the whole aim of it, to encourage players though education and demonstration.

I was in it last year, but honestly I didn't do one single thing with it other than get a few drum magazines in the mail. I know it allows you to go to certain events and stuff but I just didn't have the time. I'm not anymore.

Well, you have to become a member of PAS to be able to go to PASIC convention in November.....

I have a friend who is a well known professional drummer and he said this was a good venue to attend.... he thinks it would be great for my son Kevin... to get his name out and all. Plus lots of exposer to various artists and great clinics are offered.
