Just got a Crush Chameleon snare - for free!

So, anyone who has Crush Drums and Percussion added on facebook, may have noticed that they have been doing facebook giveaway competitions.

A couple of weeks ago they did the first of these competitions, to win a snare, and guess who won it?

This snare is damn pretty. Sounds awesome with a stock head. Going to sound even better when I get a better skin on it. The colour scheme even works fairly well with my kit:



I'm so stoked about it too; this is the first brand new drum I have ever owned.

It's a Birch snare. Crush is a pretty new company. Right now i'm wondering how many Crush drums there are in the UK. 'Cause surely there can't be that many.

The lugs are metal, the plastic bits are inserts which mean you can change the colour scheme of the snare (ish). As far as I can see, there's no tension on the plastic.

ive been watching Crush since they got a spot in GCs catalog. unique drums to say the least. i wonder who makes that stock head. seems to have alot of info printed on it. dont toss it yet.

It's a Remo head. Like I said, the sound from it's fine, it's really nice. I really don't like that it's off white, and the rest of the snare is pure snow. Clearly a lot of the appeal of this snare is it's looks, I want it to look it's best, and I think I can improve on the sound slightly too.

I wouldn't bin it either. It'll join the other 'not quite done' heads behind my sofa, my emergency spares collection.

Looks really nice, I think it goes great with the derby racing stripe theme of your Gretsch's. Free, the best deal you can get, well done! How does it feel to have a birch snare as your main? I do not hear about a lot of guys using birch snares, but I think birch in general sounds wonderful.

I'm not going to get a chance to really play it till Monday. The only time I can play drums is during the week between 12-6pm, otherwise i'm disturbing neighbours. I'll report back when i've given it a good whack with the rest of the kit :D. From what i've played of it though it sounds amazing, so I think i'm going to be happy using this snare as my main.

Congratulations IAAI! It does look cool with the Gretsch kit, and the price is totally unbelievable!! You're right about the Remo UT heads being OK, but there will be a difference when you upgrade. I'll look forward to more of a review when you've had a chance to put it through its paces.

I'm starting to see them as an innovative company and not just the next 'custom inspired' deal than Ddrum is. The interchangable parts in the lugs are a respectable idea, I don't think i've seen many other companies offer something like that. Yamaha's noveau lugs come to mind, but not exactly the same principle as it sounds like here. Almost an adaptation of Pearl's interchangable cams, but applied to lugs instead of pedals. It's a nice touch I admit, i'm looking forward to seeing what Crush has planned for the drum industry in the near future.

Well, I've had a good shot of this drum today, I'm incredibly pleased with it. It just makes an immense sound, it's everything i'd hope for in a snare. It's really very responsive too. I don't think I'm up to reviewing it, but it's a very good drum, it'd be well worth the money had I paid any for it.
