its each to their own, im not here to offend anyone or get into a argument.. there isnt anything wrong with trying different ways of setup when you might like it..
Wow! Talk about a sudden right turn!
Guys, as long as there is opinions, there will be disagreements. Doesn't really matter what someone else says, you have the free will to either accept, deny or discuss each others opinions. Once its out there, It's out there and is subject to discussion, but not ridicule.
It's one of the things I liked about this forum. Everyone usually approaches each other with dignity and respect.
Now as far as the port, I bought one for the direct reason that it would project the bass sound. It did not fail in this respect. It also did not loose as much resonance as I thought it would. After a little help from Russ, we got it spot on soundwise, and love the projection it gives the bass. I do not reguard them as a gimmick, they work plain and simple. Now is it for everyone? Maybe not. Drumming seems to be noi different than any other hobbie, you have traditionalists, and you have eveyone else. So it may not be for everyone, as far as I'm concerned.
I like mine, it works as advertised, its good enough for me.

I would think that the drummers that play with no reso head on the BD would have the biggest port.
Can you look at it that way?
Any port in a storm...
You know the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common:
they don't alter their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views,
which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering.
lol im all ported out.. anyway since this whole port thing is interesting id say stay in between so it doesnt feel so much pain (bad noise) ... ive been wondering all week what a base without reso head sounds like, and im going to do it this wknd, ill record it with a mic, then put the head on.. we shall see which sounds better does it sound ****e? im guessing it will lol
Rick, you're alright in my book bro, and I,m glad to have your input!.

Stick, homeularis,
Thanks guys, I appreciate that.
As you get older, you get stubborn, and being I was stubborn out of the womb, you see where it leaves me.
I like ports on the bass drumhead, but in the case of a few of my ex girlfriends, i'd say I prefer unported!

In the case of some of my ex-girlfriends, I just thought "Yeah, take the damn heads off and lets see what they sound like then".
dam would totally use a "kick port" if it meant i could still use a internal kick mic
