    what kind of music suits low, darker toned cymbals and what kind of music suits high pitched and brighter cymbals.

    I'd say music where your set and cymbals really need to be outstanding over the guitar and whatnot to go for the brighter sounds. Music where the spotlight is on you or depends on you for the most part would be good with darker, heavier tones for a more powerful feel. Danny Carey's a great example with heavy power crashes and huge 26" rides, china's too, Tool depends almost completely on him to make the music for them.

    This is more often subjective, aligned with your taste and not as much determined by the music.
