I currently have an offset 2 up 1 down, which I quite like, although I would like to have 2 floor toms. My preferred config would be an offset 2 up 2 down but since that isn't a choice, I'll go with the same as you - 1 up 2 down.
Of the following 5 pc. configurations, which do you prefer?
• 2 Up 1 Down 10, 12, 14
• 1 Up 2 Down 12, 14, 16
I like the bottom end combination of notes the second configuration provides and the ability to position the ride over the kick. It does require some twisting to play both hands on that second FT though. I'm going to say 1 up 2 down is my current favorite.

My kit now is 2 up 1 down but I,m working on buying a 1 up 2 down kit also.
I guess the answer for me is both, but if I only had one choice, I guess it would be 2 up 1 down.
Even I,m bored with my answer. :/
HHMMMM!...FIRE BAAAADD!!

I've had a few 2up1down kits and I'd definitely go for 1up2down.

I like 1 up and 2 down because I've gotten very used to a 4 piece setup. I love having the ride cymbal down low.

I like 2 up and 1 down. I do like having two floor toms, but I much prefer 2 up because in the music I play I would never need more than two on the floor.

I haven't experienced the 1-up, 2-down kit before. I have played a 2-up, 1-down for almost 4 years now, so it is a little odd for me to only have one tom. I have played on 1-up, 1-down 4 piece kits, and I don't dislike them, the simplicity is nice, but I prefer to have 2-up. It's just what I am accustomed to

Converted my two up/one down to a one up/two down after my mounting system got stripped. I actually prefer it over a two up/one down, except for having to twist around a bit, I'll get used to it though.
I prefer two up one down. That's how my current kit is set up.
I really like the 2 up and 2 down with an offsey on the rack toms, just as Matt and late8 said. having said that, it I have to stick to the boundaries set by this thread, I guess I'd say 2 up and 1 down, just because I haven't played 1 up 2 down before. It's the one configuration I haven't tried yet.

I started this thread because I have a 2 up 1 down kit and a 1 up 2 down ordered. I wanted oppinions in case there were any caveats I hadn't thought of going to the new, for me, configuration.
Today I bought an add-on tom for the future kit so now it will be 2 up 2 down. Thanks for everyone's input!
2 up 2 down ftw!
I like 2 up 1 down with offset toms, 10 12 16.
