Not if you have a bad back
The most important thing is posture and strength in your core
having a back rest putting horizontal pressure on your spin is like the last thing you want you need a seat that requires effort to keep balance
not something you just lean into
i thought we where talking to a guy with back issues
if you like a back rest cool go for it but it aint the best idea for a bad back
i would take that 90 bucks and go to a chiro and get them to give you exercises to do to help your problem
talk to a professional about it, a back rest wont help you in your everyday life, attack the root of the pain dont try and mask it

Right. There is nothing anyone can say to refute the claim that a back rest is the only way to insure that you are sitting up straight. And that they are a boon rather than a detriment to proper posture. Or that using one will hurt your back in any way, especially if your already injured. Ridiculous.

He ended up prescribing lemonade...lemonade, can you believe it? he said, well if life gives you lemons....take this! So here i am , all sour puss and all...
but really, back to the question....

Drum thrones... ya gotta try them out, and not just at the store, but in real life..'cause i bought ...and returned (keep the packing material!) more than 1 before i made my choice...too soft was too unstable, hurt my back. it surprised me, because i figured nice and soft would help absorb shock, etc..but it didn't, it made it such that i really had to fight to maintain stability, position, accuracy. tha Tama chair i bought has adjustments on the back rest (height as well as how forward the back rest is, sorry for my poor description)...but ya may hurt your back again carrying the thing, which is a drag.It takes up a whole suitcase, which used to hold a whole lot more.....i'll never need to buy another throne i suspect...4 legs on 'er

Whoa, that's getting a little harsh there Edda.. Please remember to not namecall/insult, and also to treat others respectfully. I realize how passionate and knowledgable you guys are about drum thrones and other types of gear, but I sense the topic getting a little too heated so please try and ease it down a little bit. I wish to see the discussion continue though, don't get me wrong. I think this thread is a great reference and I like reading it. Thanks.

This (and every forum ever) could just be "what _____ do you use?" That's what forums are about. People share their opinions on what they use.

haha, throne debate can put some in the "hot seat"...
if you ask a drummer what time it is?!? they're likely to respond with a time signature "oh, it's 4/4"....
