I was poking around the Zildjian site when I ran across those. Seemed OK, but I wondered what niche they were after. When I played the sound byte, it reminded me a bit of the China cymbal. Now, I 'm certainly not the last word on cymbals, so tell me if you agree, or if I'm just hearing it wrong.

Hmm, how would you hit the thing? The spiral or the top of it? Im sure a fullswing on the spiral isnt good for it at all

I think you are supposed to use a baseball bat (points to center field, and takes a big swing!). I crack myself up, sometimes!

I played with one at the music shop downtown. It does sound kinda like a china with a really psychadelic springy resonance. You should hit it more towards the top, but not too hard. I only hit it a few times because I was afraid I was going to break the thing.

So, a baseball bat is out of the question?

A drummer friend of mine has one that he brings to the local open stage. It's just another special effect cymbal, kinda cool, takes up a lot of room, though. Kinda looks like a space age Christmas tree. I listened to the sound bytes on the Zildjian website and it sounds pretty much like that.
