Question Is there really such a thing as a nylon drum head?

I see mylar hide and kevlar everywhere, but when I look at samba suppliers I see nylon. I don't see it elsewhere. I don't believe that the poor people of Brasil can have their exclusive type of head. I DO believe that there is a lot of misinformation floating around since samba is a segregated community. That said, its tuned way high.

Does nylon really exist or do they mean mylar?

I never heard of it ! Mylar is the best plastic for drum heads & is why it is used. Some high torque marching drums like Scottish pipe bands snare drums use are actually made of Kevlar fabric ! Its like a flexible fiberglass head lol.
