the ebony stain is pretty sweet too. but I think in a dark club, the white marine is still my fav.

My favorites are definitely between the white marine and ice white I think I favor the plain white though.

I have never really been a fan of white drum kits, but for some reason, I keep going back to look at the white marine...
My wish is for them to make some of the twisted wraps available, like the white twisted silk (as seen in the Collectors' Finish Ply section). Hopefully there will be more eye candy options introduced at winter NAMM.
I found a lot more finishes here:
http://www.dwdrums.com/drums/classics/finishes.asp
that white twisted silk is pretty sharp too. Blue has always been my favorite color but I don't like the look of the solid blue for some reason. maybe because my Pearls are a solid black wrap and I've been staring at that for 15 years. Additionally, I ride my toms low so I can reach them (again why I want fast tom sizes) and they have put scratches in my kick so thats why I don't want black, or a solid color. I just feel like the more textured looking white would really stand out in crowd and hide damage well.
my buddy has a green to black kind of fade on his PDP's. They are a GREAT set, but in a dark club its hard to see the fade or the green at all. they almost look black. If I'm going to put extra attention into a set that looks good as well as sounds good, I don't want to lose the details. I think I'd like black hardware on the white marine as well. but man I don't want to wait 14 weeks. that's too much time to rethink and regret my purchase!! LOL
OK this is pretty slick.

LOL I didn't say that was the color combo I was going to go with, but I definitely like how bold and different it is :D
It's definitely...different......haha

lol
The Performance Series is only offered in one hardware color, 5 lacquers and 3 wraps (5-star shop exclusives excluded). Sounds like you may want to save up for Collectors if you want black hardware.
Before I bought my X7 kit I played it in store side by side with a DW performance kit. Both kits had stock heads and were properly tuned.
My results were:
SOUND- DW Performance Snare sounded better then the X7 snare. The rack toms sounded identical. The X7 floor toms and kick drum sounded better, more sustain from the floor toms and more low end punch from the kick.
LOOKS- The DW performance lugs look much nicer then the PDP X7's. The DW mounting system is nicer. The Lacquer fade finishes on the X 7's look better then the Performance finishes.
So I chose the X7's. Over all for what I was looking for it was the better choice. I actually ended up buying two X7 kits for what one 5 piece Performance kit would have cost.
Don't be fooled by the letters DW and don't be fooled by the type of Maple or where the drums are made. The PDP X7 kits are an excellent sounding kit, and a great value.
I've been playing drums for 36 years and other then my Ludwig Classic Maple kit the X7's are the best sounding kit I've owned. I honestly could not be happier with the purchase.

X7, badass kit. one for sale in my local store 598.00
Seriously? So nobody stocks the marine white, possibly 14 week lead on a new kit (waiting to hear back from GC) and black hardware isn't even an option?? LOL this is a bummer!
I was wondering that too....
Is it weird that I don't really care much about the snare? would be nice to have a wood snare for a different sound, but I'm so happy with my Pork Pie it's an insignificant part for me. What I loved most about the DW was the toms. I thought they had the perfect sound, and I hate the resonance on my pearls.
as far as the hardware goes, i'm glad to hear you say that. I was on a pearl forum and the guys were ranking on the DW hardware in terms of looks. the look of it is one of the things I like most, I think its great.
as it is right now, if I can build the kit I want (which is looking slimmer) I am leaning Performance. BUT I appreciate the continued feedback from everyone and I'll find an X7 kit to give another look as well :D if I DID go X7, makes it easier to justify the DW9000 double kick, and maybe a new cymbal....
Haha I've found that there a lot of biased people on that forum, it is a PEARL forum afterall haha. I love this forum though, the people are so much more friendly and knowledgeable here in regards to the x7, try it out, everyone has different tastes if you look in the used market, you'll surely find some good deals. Just make sure they're maple. I was looking on craigslist about a week ago, had a white x7, maple, no snare, $400. Looked brand new. I was about to email the dude about them, but they sould fairly quick >.< also saw a set of platinums at GC the other, basic 5 piece, titanium fade, 6 or $700. That seems like a heck of a deal to me, wasn't sure why it wasnt selling as it looked like it was mint. Like I said, I personally would recommend the DWPS over the others, however if your able to find a good deal, and get some hardware/cymbals with it, don't hesitate just make sure you try out the speed cobras before you buy the 9002's haha, im a big DW fan, but those just blew my mind

LOL thanks for the tip on the Cobras, I will do The reason I fell in love with the DW's was they were set up on the performance kit I was jamming a few weeks back and I noticed my feet were twice as fast as with my DW 7000s EASILY and it was soooo effortless. they were the best doubles I'd ever used, but then again, i've never had a chance to play with longboards either and the guys I work with here say they are the best...
As a converted guitar player, I'm going to have to declare BS on that one. One of my Gibson LPs is a 1991 studio. At the time, it was the "lowest" or second "lowest" end guitar they were making. I've never laid hands on an Epiphone that could touch it. Hardware is one of the places that Epiphone goes cheap to save money. I've seen more bad tuners on Epis than I could count. The fretwork is another places where the difference is night and day. Small details make a big difference in crucial areas. Rant over.
Mmm... Saturns.
yeah I am going to have to update my hi-hat setup before long too. it's too difficult for me to have the hihat stand fit in with the double pedals. its just kinda too far away for my tastes. after I get my new kit I'll shop remote setups.

I'm guessing it's newer than any of the ones I've played then. I'm certainly not saying that Epi doesn't make some good guitars. I've played worked over/upgraded Epis that rival stock Gibsons, but out of the gate Gibson makes a better instrument. The real question is; is it that much better as to warrant spending the extra $500-1000.
Mmm... Saturns.
yeah your hihat is a LOT like what I prefer. a few times I have been able to set mine up where the hi hat is actually even closer to the kick behind the snare and I somehow finagled the pedal to be BETWEEN the double kick pedal and still fit around the snare stand, but it's a PITA, like a puzzle to get it to work right lol. BUT i totally agree with you its easier to play and double up on for those 16ths.
sometimes I strike at the hi hat when it's to far away and just completely miss LOL. especially if i'm learning a new groove, but I think that's just me getting distracted. I'll pop my bonham book up on my small rack tom open to the page i'm working on and miss the high hat to my left 1/2 the time cause i'm leaning right to read lol
I know a local powder coater that is pretty affordable. do you think it would be a bad idea for the integrity of the drums if I were to remove the hardware and have it powder coated black or another color?
