I've tried the Meridian and the M5 before, but not side by side. I can tell you that I really like both kits and found that not only were the sounds coming from the drums great, but playing them felt comfortable (I'm big on adjusting drum positions because I find it hard to get comfortable behind a kit). They both adjusted easily for that comfort. I haven't tried the Ddrum Reflex, however I've read up on a lot of Ddrum stuff and it seems to me (I may be wrong) that Ddrum used to be of a higher quality - a lot of the reviews I see for Ddrum (not specifically the Reflex) is negative.

Wish I could be of more help but that's all I got. Good luck and I'm sure you'll be happy with the Mapex or PDP - maybe even the Ddrum.

I currently play the PDP M5 and I love how the kit sounds, the maple shells really sing! I slapped some ec2's on them and the tone is warm and deep and overal just great. I currently play in a altenavtive rock/punk band, and it fits really well I have no quarrels with the shells. I would say the only downfall (and it's not a big one) would be the snare, it's just not deep enough for my liking, but still has a good pop to it.

Disclaimer: I am a Mapex owner.

First cut would be the ddrum. I've heard that their QC has gotten back up to snuff, but I'm not ready to trust them yet. Also, I'll take a maple kit over an alder kit any day of the week.

Meridian vs. M5: both are good quality intermediate level kits. They both sound good. However, I think that Mapex has better looking hardware and finish choices. With the right heads and tuning, either kit will shine for pop/rock/r&b sounds.

If you can try the Meridian, go do it. I doubt that you'll have any complaints, asside from maybe the stock heads on it.

I agree with ditching ddrum and deciding between Mapex and M5. I think at this point it would come down to finishes, configuration and price. You will be thrilled with the sound of either kit.

Good luck in you decision and remember to post pics if/when you get your new kit!
