Get a decent sound interface ... It will cut midi lag a lot
Besides getting a faster laptop (it's pretty old), what should I check if I'm having latency issues running Addictive Drums with my Yamaha DTXpress III?
I'm also finding weird things between what driver to use, some I can adjust the buffer, others I can't.
I'm open to any help.

I actually have a decent interface. Presonus Audiobox USB. It's not amazing, but I've used it before on other machines without issue.
I'm pretty sure it's the fact that I'm using a 4 or 5 year old laptop that wasn't fast when I bought it new. The lag is massive when I use the built in sound on the laptop!
Just didn't know if there were other things I could do in the interim to try to clean it up.

what DAW do you use?
I'm actually just using VSTHost which is a free program, very small, which allows you to run VST's without a DAW. The only DAW I have, Presonus Studio, doesn't run 3rd party VST's, and I don't want to pay to upgrade to something that does.

You need a Daw to get the lag down using driver error compensation
I'll have to look into it. From what I was told (by the makers of Addictive Drums) VSTHost should run it without issue.
