That is a great Pic of Carl Palmer. That blue acrylic set looks great under those lights. ELP and YES were 2 of my favorite bands in the 1970's. I saw ELP in Nashville on there "Brain Salad Surgery" tour.
He played just up the road at the Sunrise Theatre this past year with "Asia" but I stupidly did not go. If he is still touring with them?

Yes he is. Palmer recently toured with the original line-up of Asia, celebrating their 25th anniversary. A live album and DVD from the tour, entitled Fantasia was released by Eagle Rock Records.

With all the Neil Peart worship now-a-days, I gotta tell you, Carl Palmer is his equal any day of the week. For technicality and sheer speed he is in Buddy Rich territory. Hard to believe...61 and still able to play like that.

    all the best...

Pretty 70's, psychedelic, and well, of it's time (lol)....but there's no denying of Carl's technical virtuosity in this video, even back then.

And bear in mind....all done with a single kick pedal.

Carl Palmer is definitely one of my faves. Look up the YouTube video of him just soloing on a single snare drum, and you'll see what a master drummer he is.

As for the blue Vistalites, they did look cool on stage on the Asia tour, but they still sounded awful, especially during his solo.
And the trees are all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw. . .

Carl's in his element here. How could you not like his drumming on this?

Carl is a machine. No doubt

The line between the real world and the machine world is becoming more and more blurred every day.But its not that humans are turning into automations or becoming slaves to the machines. No, we're simply growing toward each other!

haven't listened to too much ELP, but I never heard he had timing problems.............I've only heard accolades.

One of my goals when I was a young kid was to be able to play the ride cymbal as fast as he did on "Tarkus". I eventually was able to do it after building my chops. He played it so smooth!

I always played Premier, and I was thrilled when he played Premier. I saw him on the first Asia tour, and he was excellent! He played with a lot of power, very strong. I think that was his stainless steel kit.

I really like his playing on the ELP album, "Love Beach" (I know, I know, a lot of people hate that album), I just think his approach on those songs was superb.

I got an invite from CP's management to see him the next time he tours.
Trouble is that he mainly tours the east coast and I'm in SF.
