You don't get to play with Frank without being a musical god...

BTW... he sounds so sane in the video posted.. i would like to see him on a 3 piece.

P.S. and of course found this 10 seconds later...

For some reason i have always had a mental image of terry being a complete douche... no idea where i got that idea.. (the pic above doesn't help)

But after watching this he seems to be extremely cool and his enthusiasm talking about drums is just great...

Terry's signature kick/snare/china licks from 3:50 onward have bedazzled me since his Missing Persons days and his facial expressions and body movements while doing them are inimitable ...

This is a party for a drummer. You can play this literally any way you want. Slow, fast, somewhere in between. Snare, toms, cymbals, you can make just about any approach to that work.

This is true but the drum part may have been written this way by Frank Zappa, I do not know.
If it was improvisational on Terry's part or written by Mr. Zappa, it was in nice taste to me.

I wouldn't work with someone who is going to hand me the drum parts and take away my ability to play it as I hear it. If Bozzio played it as he heard it, it was fine. If Zappa wrote the drum parts out, it sucked because it took away a good drummers take on it.

Frank Zappa pays you to play as he hears it. He is the artist who hired you.
I'm sure he writes out a skeleton of what he wants and lets drummers improvise also.

I totally agree, he's got like 4 gears, just when you think he's at his peak he shifts into another level of intensity, it's mind-blowing and you can feel and see the emotion in his gestures.
