Play at my church 3x per week. Much slower now due to this virus, but I absolutely love it. We have a great team of musicians at our church.

My band Crutchfield is a Christian band as well. Absolutely love it!

Here is a video of last Sunday's outside church service. Those are my drums and cymbals (except the 16 inch crash). My son is the bass player. Let me know what you think. Peace and goodwill. Oh yeah, the music starts at about 2:35.

I guess I have been very lucky / blessed. I have never been asked to play to a click or play behind any type of screen. I have gotten way more compliments than complaints. I have played at three different churches for almost thirty years. I have played hundreds of praise and worship songs. That is all I want to play now. I am the only one concerned with my volume. The toms have single ply heads, and the crash cymbals are all very thin. I also went to smaller sticks. Peace and goodwill.

This is from July 4, 2021. Our singers had been at youth camp the week before. This was the best service we have had. Peace and goodwill.

We had a great service today. I am very glad I finally got the cymbals right. They are from left to right:

    13" Paiste Alpha Medium Hats
    20" HHX Evolution Ride
    18" Zildjian K China
    16" AAX Concept Crash
    17" AAX Concept Crash
    18" AAX Studio Crash

I even sang one song, "Come and Fill This Place", and did not mess it up. Peace and goodwill.

Well, the cymbals are better now. I replaced the 18" AAX Studio Crash with the 18" SR2 Thin Crash. The SR2 crash sounds better with the AAX Concept Crashes than the Studio Crash does. Peace and goodwill.

On the last three Monday mornings, I went to our church and practiced by myself. I had not done that in years. I even took my preferred drum books (Stick Control, Syncopation for the Modern Drummer, and The Rock Drumming Workbook). The first time is was a bit rough, but yesterday it went better. In July or August, I am planning to have a church drummer day so that we can help each other to be better drummers. Peace and goodwill.

I get to sing "Let It Rain" tomorrow at church. I can sing and play drums at the same time. Peace and goodwill.

In the past 55 years I'd sing a little back up stuff, but in the last 2 years, since I'm in a 3 piece band, I now sing about half of our songs. Once I got over hating the way I sound it's not too bad.

That is true with me too. Peace and goodwill.

Joined a new church back in November ‘24. It just so happened that they didn’t have a drummer for the last 3 years so they resorted to using backing tracks from “All Session”. When I showed up, the drum “cage” as they called it, was used mainly as storage for the Mapex Meridian church kit. I brought my own cymbals, hardware, Porter/Davies BC2 throne, all Audix mics D6 for kick, i5 for snare, D2 12" tom D2 14" floor tom and D4 16" floor tom, 2X Shure SM81 Hihat, and ride. Swapped out the heads for Evans clear hydraulics over G1 clears. The “cage” is so tight that I’m using a 1 up 2 down configuration and ditched the 10” tom to make it fit comfortably.

Rigged up a second in ear monitoring system independent of the church Berringer P16 in ears monitoring so I can come in to practice without the main audio system needing to be turned on. It’s basically a small 4 channel mixer with a mp3 player and a DB90 metronome wired into it.

Crash cymbals are a combination of 16" Zildjian A Custom, 18" Zildjian Kerope, and a 14" Sabian HHX xtreme.
Hats are vintage 15" Zildjian A thin and a 22" Medium low thin Constantinople ride.

Been using two snares with this set up. Pictured is a 6x13" Mapex Cherry Bomb but swapped it out for a 6.5x14" Ludwig 402 (John Bonham snare) which cuts through the mix better.
