Main Style: Progressive, Psychedelic, and Instrumental Rock
    Main Band: Pink Floyd
Brief Summary: Nicholas "Nick" Berkeley Mason is the drummer of Pink Floyd and the only member to have remained in the group for its entire existence. Although many consider his drumming to be simple by comparison, his precise technique and tasty grooves are a perfect fit for Pink Floyd.

One of my biggest influences in the early days of my drumming. Playing along to Floyd really helped with my development, and likely I wouldn't be where i'm at now had I not attempted their songs. Interesting about the racing though, had no idea he was into that.

Same here, Russ. Sounds just like my history. I still enjoy playing along to Floyd.

His drumming was simple but really served Pink floyds music, in the same spirit as Ringo served his band. Read his autobiography, its hilarious, the band life from the drummers perspective. I've read over 50 musician auto-bios, and his is one of the best (along with Mick Fleetwoods).

I am a big fan of Nick Mason. He's not the flashiest drummer, but he's rock solid, and he serves the music of his band very well. To me, serving the music is priority #1, and Nick Mason did that very well.

Pink Floyd had a huge influence on my musical journey into psychedelic rock and Nick's playing still moves me in the way it did when I first heard of the band back in 1971. The album Meddle (1971) with "One of These Days" had such a dark ominous tone to it and the drumming on that track was phenomenal. According to Wiki: "Nick Mason's abstruse "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces" line was recorded at double speed using a falsetto voice, and replayed at normal speed. The cover, containing a close-up shot of an ear underwater, was, as with several previous albums, designed by Hipgnosis, though Storm Thorgerson was unhappy with the final result."

I think Charlie Watts quipped that he'd been playing drums
with the Stones for 5 years and spent 40 years hanging around.
Nick Mason has done that too, but much more slowly.

I wonder if Floyd deliberately avoided playing uptempo?

His drumming is a lot like Gimours guitar playing...perhaps not elaborate or fast, but every single note counts for something.

I hate Pink floyd sooo much.. even stoned outa my mind i find them boring as hell. But i love Mason's drumming.. his fills are just simple and sweet and everything fits in so perfect. Big fan of his.

EDIT: CHANGED LINK TO PINK, This simple typo had confused some people, so just wanted to clear that up.

    Yeah........................link floyd sux.

But Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall -- all imagined, written, performed and recorded by Pink Floyd -- made more money than Trump.

I really think Nick Mason is one of the absolute most underrated drummers, and that's largely because he doesn't play more blast beats than The Rev and Peart can manage together.

Every time I listen to "Eclipse" and "Run Like Hell" it's the very basic drumming that allows for the showstoppers. Even goes with "Numb".
