Bonham wasn't the most technical....but what he played was just flat out cool.

If Bonham was sloppy, what would that make Jimmy Paige? Really sloppy? My point being, sometimes it just works. It's rock and roll, not the philharmonic.

...I think it had more to do with being wasted...but, like you said....that's rock and roll

I always thought he sounded very in control and there was a real intense feel behind his playing that I admired. It's said he can play busy and simple equally well, which from what I can tell is a very in demand skill among drummers. A lot of the guys who are great at busy stuff just can't stay with a simple groove, and vice versa. Someone with both talents is worthy of the reputation they earn with them.

I think John Bonham was a great drummer no matter what anyone says about him he is a legend. He made the Ludwigs drums popular.

john bonham is a drummers drummer, im still influenced by his playing to this very day. ive tried to emulate him, more than any other drummer on planet earth, he was such a fat sound to be reckoned with, im thankful for teachers like john...

he may not be your cup of tea, but, if you turn him up loud enough, he'll vibrate your teacup off the table, onto the floor

    rip jb
if you ask a drummer what time it is?!? they're likely to respond with a time signature "oh, it's 4/4"....

+ 1 on that he was loud back then they did not have the technology of today. So loud was the big thing for a drummer. I alway loved the sound of his bass drum or for that matter the whole kit sounded good.

I was never a big Baker fan. Nothing to do with him as a player. Just never really liked Cream's music in general.

Agreed!..Bonham had a knack for taking some of Page's complex patterns and making them work in 4/4 setting…there's a knack to doing that….and you can definitely hear (at least I can) a jazz influence in his playing as well…Bonham's still one of my favs.
