    Ian Paice

    Drummer: Ian Paice
    Main Style: Rock
    Main Band: Deep Purple
Brief Summary: Ian Anderson Paice (born 29 June 1948) is an English musician, best known as the drummer of the English rock band Deep Purple. After Jon Lord's departure in 2002, he's the only founding member of the band who never stopped performing with the group and the only member to appear on every album the band has released.

Other Facts: In November of 1982, Ian Paice joined Gary Moore for an album date ("Corridors of Power"). It turned out so nicely that Moore's manager came up with the idea of Moore and Paice putting a band together under Moore's name, so that his management would take the business side of the project with Paice having a sizable interest in the band.

The collaboration turned out to be a successful one and produced a couple of albums and extensive tours. Ian Paice left Moore's band in April 1984 to rejoin Deep Purple, and he remains in Deep Purple to the present day.

I swear this is true.....I had a good drummer mate back in my church youth group days, Joe Borg, who not only had glasses like Paicey, but had his 70's hair and played Paiste cymbals! I was sooo egging him on to grow the mutton chop sideburns Paice used to sport, hehe. Actually, he used to nickname me "Neil" because I was such a Rush nut back then, and in fact we had an afternoon one time where he brought his kit around and we jammed, imagining we were our heroes, lol. And he was a Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple fan on top of all that.

"Black Night" is one Deep Purple tune I get a few students to do. Not only a wicked shuffle to pull off, but the fills are a whole heap of fun as well.

First rate drummer! Doesn't get the recognition he deserves, IMO.

Check out his playing on Made in Europe (David Coverdale on vocals).

Especially the cowbell work on You Fool No One!

Saw them in the late 80's with the "classic" lineup on the Perfect Strangers Tour. What a show!

    Thanks for posting Olimpass.

A classic tune for sure...That vid shows just how great each individual member of Deep Purple was.Strange to think that they and Rush still haven't been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

    I don't understand it.
The Machine Head album by Deep Purple has to be in the top 100, IMO.

Ian Paice was always "over shadowed" by John Bonham IMO. Yet I think he is the superior drummer. He's got a touch of Buddy Rich, especially in the rudiment thing.

One of my all time favorite drummers. A huge influence and another guy that improved my single kick work in the early days. This guy is a drumming legend.

Like we all have stated. "what a drummer!" I saw him with Whitesnake back in 81 at Hammersmith Odeon, before Whitesnake when "hairband". Jim Lord was with them as well! I really like Deep Purple Mark V with the album Come Taste the Band. Yea it was not the usual DP stuff, but the whole album had a great groove to it.

I was living in Japan when "Live In Japan" was released and that album was a major influence to the start of my 'heavy metal' listening. As I recall, there's a drum solo on the "Live In Japan" album that was so solid, I became an instant fan of Ian Paice's work throughout the Deep Purple era.
