Black Beauty made in USA black Magic made in china Black Beauty 1 of the best snares made IMHO
Hello,
Considering getting a second snare in the near future and was wondering from those that might know if there is a significant sound difference between the Black Beauty and Black Magic. I'm looking at the 6.5 by 14. I also heard the hardware on the Black Magic is far inferior. True?

Go for the Black Beauty but if you can get an older version cause I don't know what the new ones compare to the Vintage.
the Black Beauty is one of the highest quality snares you can get. The Black Magic is supposed to be a "budget friendly" version of the Black Beauty. As said before, one made in America, one made in China. Black Magics are great drums, but they are not the same as a Beauty

Having played almost exclusively on Black Beauty Super Sensitives, with a couple of Supras thrown in. The Black Beauty is probably the best snare drum ever made.
To be fair, I have played other snare drums, on other guys sets. Tama, Pearl, DW, Sonor, Rogers, Slingerland, et al. All the name brand snares are good, but, I don't think you can find a better all around snare than the Black Beauty.
i have a black magic and i like it a lot but if i ad the 300.00 more i ad choose the black beauty

Well that helped significantly. I always get budget kits because I leave them at rehearsal spaces and look for deals on second hand cymbals as well so I kind of want to splurge on my snare a little anyway (and take it with me after rehearsals of course). I'm going for the Black Beauty. Thanks for the feedback.

Skip the B Stock thingy though. You will be happier with yourself in the long run.
Most of the time the only thing "wrong" with a B stock item is something minor cosmetic. It could be something as simple as a small scratch or discoloration, in which case it doesnt really matter because if you gig it at all you'll wind up with minor blemishes a some point anyway.
I say to get the Black Beauty B stock if they are roughly the same price. It's a classic drum and you will never regret it.

You're = you are - a contraction.
Learn it. Love it.
This is the one you want, don't mind the dog, she has to get into everything.

OOOOOOOOOOOOo I have one of those. The super black beauty, 5 incher. And its gotten a lot of play time lately. They ARE nice drums.
B stock cut badge etc, will never have the resale value of a "correct" drum.
I've never been overly concerned with resale value on anything I buy, mainly because when I acquire something I'm not thinking that far down the road. When I get it, the idea is that it will be for MY use with no intention of reselling. Why think about the idea of reselling something that I'm just now buying? Aside from that, I've also never been overly concerned with brand name or model - my main concern has always been sound, and that would be my only reason for ponying up the kind of cash it takes to get me into ANY kind of Black Beauty, B-Stock or not. Just my 2¢.

Hey Rick is that the Black Beauty that you use in you videos. I am also curious to know what brand of drums and cymbals you use and their sizes if you don' mind sharing with us.
As to the Black Beauty, yes, it is. I bought it so I could retire my 40 year old BB SS that was my main snare for decades.
The drums are all Ludwigs except the floor tom on my left side.
If I use all the drums I have, they are: 12x8, 13x10, 2-14x10's, 15x12, 2- 16x16's, 18x16, and the BD is 24x14.
The cymbals are all Zildjian except the ride which is a Meinl Live Sound I picked up on e-bay for $40, a Paiste splash, 14' Meinl MCS hats that I grabbed for $50 ( have 15" Zildjian hats), the crashes are all 18" Zildjians, they run from thin to medium. For me, 18" is the perfect crash size.
That's about it.
Thanks for all the feedback. My purchase will be on hold after hitting a deer on my way to work this morning that will cost me but I'm going with the Black Beauty for sure as soon as I can.

sell the deer meat, call insurance company, buy Ludwig snare
you did pick up the carcass right?
Ah, the deer ran away. Came out of the woods, headbutted my passenger side door and took off. I could use the insurance check for it but that would be wrong

Actually, now that I have to look at a lower end. What is the nicest BB "rip." Black Magic, Pork Pie BBB? There's so many. My local GC has alot of them but they flooded out this last week because of the freak weather. Guess I'll just have to wait to test them since it's hard to tell the difference online. Kinda tired of my 5" wood snare though. Sounds weak with the band at times.

Hey Rick can you give us an idea to which heads you have tried since april on your BB. Another question is that muffling pads on your drums on the videos or are they ebony heads.
