I need to listen to some of this older rock stuff because there are some outstanding drummers out there.... Toto :> My new love :P
This will be next on my .... toget list.
I've been listening to Alice in Chains recently and I have to say I'm kinda amazed at this guys drumming style. He does a lot of stuff with his toms and everything for fills, and he's great at KISS (keep it simple stupid ). He got the right beats for every song that the bassist and guitarist laid down and then adds a bit of flair to his playing.
So if anyone else has heard this guy's drumming, what do you think of it?
Edit: Here are a couple of examples of this guys drumming.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=bMCBsp7fjQc Keeping it simple.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Yogm2hlpnhY A mixture of the two.

I used to hate dir straights, (or however you spell it) but actually the drummer is really good, and did some things i still dont hear in mondern drumming today, and that was awhile ago! im beginning to beleive more and more that those old drummers were very good.
Oh yeah. I don't think many drummers today realise just how great some of the old drummers sound.
I went to a battle of the bands a while ago, and there were 16 bands. 14 sounded like Indie rock, all covering acts by Razorlight and the Kaiser Chiefs and stuff. But they also had to play their own songs...and each one was just the basic rock beat with a simplistic fill in there. Don't get me wrong, they were alright...there just didn't seem to be any signiature sound to any of them, they just went up there, played the same songs and went down again. The other two were a decent classic rock band (who won) and an awesome metal band (who lost but I'm going to see tomorrow) and they both had a lot more flair than all the others.

definatly man. I don't like lots of these new drummers have no style at all.
Sean Kinney is one of my all time favorite drummers. I have been a hardcore AIC fan since the early 90's and always will be. I got a chance to see them live at Rockfest last summer with their new singer. Kinney was AWESOME! He has only gotten better and better over the years and makes some of the hardest fills / time signatures look simple. I hope someday, somebody will say that about me....
