    Steve Jansen

Drummer: Steve Jansen (real name: Stephen Batt)
    Main style: New Wave/Avant-Garde
    Main Band: Japan
Brief Summary: Steve Jansen, together with bassist Mick Karn, was responsible for the twists of rhythm and acoustic/electric textures in the forward-looking UK New Wave pop group, Japan. Also a percussionist, composer, singer and brother of Japan's lead singer, David Sylvian (born David Alan Batt), Jansen has forged a personal style and approach to both percussion playing as well as programming, which is highly praised by artists he has collaborated or worked as a session drummer with, such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yukihiro Takahashi and other members from Yellow Magic Orchestra, as well as other artists such as singers Joan Armatrading and Annie Lennox, guitarist David Torn, Anja Garbarek and of course former Japan bandmates David Sylvian, Mick Karn and Richard Barbieri.

Other Facts: Steve is also an accomplished visual artist and photographer, who together with Barbieri and the recently deceased Karn, formed their own label, Medium Productions, which releases not only their own material but other artists as well.

A side project, JBK (Jansen, Barbieri, Karn) has a YouTube video featuring Steve Wilson from Porcupine Tree on guitar. Richard Barbieri from Japan became Porcupine Tree's keyboardist.

Steve sings somewhat similarly to his more famous brother and also occasionally plays guitar, and although he is left-handed, he plays both guitar and drums right handed.
