I still mess around with my snare tuning. I mostly tune my batter higher than the reso, but I sometimes drop the batter lower than the reso.

I tune batter high, reso higher. So, I picked same pitch. I like having a slightly higher reso. I feel like i get a much tighter feel to the drum and it makes getting the right amount of snare to my ears much easier to obtain.

For the Rogers........ finger tight top and bottom. +2full turns on top, +2.5 full turns on bottom. Single ply coated top, Ambassador Snare Side.

For the Ludwigs, same.. except minus a quarter to half turn.

the Ayotte snares, same as the Rogers.

On the drumdial thats about 90 on top.

really depends on the room size

I generally like my snares to be medium to medium-high on the batter, with the reso just a little higher. I did find, though, that the Warlord Masai sounds best to me at medium-high batter and a reso that is about a half turn lower. For that reason, I'm not quite sure how to vote on the poll.

I tighten the batter almost as high as it can go, and the rezo at just tight enough for a resonance, gives really sensitive response with a medium/high tone without the annoying crack of really high tuned snares.

Depends on the snare, the heads that I'm using which differ from snare to snare, the size of the snare since I usually gig with more than one, the the tuning range of the snare. For example; I usually gig with a side snare which I prefer to be higher pitched than my main, but I can't set both of them to the same number of turns per lug to get that. And for the main, it depends on what sound I'm going for. For my red dirt gig I like a very tight crack on the main with less sensitivity than say the main snare I would use with my blues gig.

It boiles down to I pretty much tune each snare to the sound I want from that snare.

This probably was not much help LOL

Depends on what songs I'm playing. Pink Floyd medium batter, tighter reso with a lot of snare action for instance. Rush, I try and tune to a fuller, fatter, cleaner crack. I try and tune as close to the song I'm playing as is possible with my Mapex Black Panther steel snare.

Most of these descriptions are meaningless. Medium? "batter high, reso higher," "almost as high as it can go?"

    These descriptions have no value.

Would it be possible to have some sort of baseline? A starting point towards tension? I think any one of you could tune one of my snare drums based on the information I gave. I wouldnt have a snowballs hope in hades to tune any of yours.

    I use a drum key.

Seriously, My batter head is "bloody knuckle tight" although mine holds an "A" note. My resonant head has to change now and again to avoid sympathetic tunings given the location on my bassist and guitarists amps/ venue. I always try to eliminate as much snare buzz as possible this way, and then use a moon gel to "tighten up the sound". That's my recipie for disaster.

Sorry, but I didn't know we were going for details. I just thought it was a general poll. Besides, as a short timer in the drumming world, I wouldn't expect that my details would be worth too terribly much. I just get the sound I like on each snare.

i just ripped my carpet out and put down mahogany wood floors.
my drums are so damn loud right now i can tell you my snare is waking the dead and making dogs howl.
ive tried to tune my snares low and it doesnt work for me.
i quiet them down by not smacking the tar out of em
seems to me everyone likes them tight.
wish i could amp my kit.

I like to start about 2 or 2.5 turns over finger tight on both sides of the snare. But I tend to be about a half turn tighter on the batter.

This continues to work well for me...

tune the reso side to a "G" and the batter side to the "B" above it.

I've been very pleased with the results.

Tuned to this note...this many turns...this number on drum dial...all pointless. Just tune to the feel and sound you want. Easy enough and all you need.

I tune mine to the same pitch on batter and reso and I find the pitch and feek I like.

You opinion has merit. I may not share the same but nonetheless is mine of any less value? Answer: No...so I find your statement as pointless.
