    Default Acrolite CL score

I had been wanting one of these for a while. Just didn't really want to spend much and this one fell in my lap last week. Thirty dollars for the drum, oval hard shell case, tripod snare stand, Gladstone round rubber practice pad. I got the student kit. I am takeing it apart now ang going to clean it up.
I never realized how nice those lugs are. There heavy and just as good as the Imperials as far as funtionality. very nice. I had not held one since high school but have played them. So here is what I have and will post pics as I go.

Very nice VIbes, and at $30, it was a steal! Those look like the original snares. Looks like it is a late 70's model, like mine.

Yes that is the original strainer, I had not dated it but the old school model.
I know that pad is old. I remember those. Yes PB, I think it is from mid to late 70's. I will get the # and look it up but it is the same model from high school, ancient days ago.

The date should be stamped on the inside. Some are still there after all these years.

The lugs are the same. You just get 8 instead of 10.

No date inside. I am sure it is 70's. I took it completely apart and cleaned, oiled and polished it. Found a Emporer batter head and scrubed it and put it on there. Also a snare strainer I had laying around. Cranked it up tight and it sounds really good. It's almost like new. I may use it with my Sonor Safari's this Thursday night.
Dee Dubbs your Acrolite is beautiful. Nice custom job. What kind of snare throw off is that?

Sharp snare vibes! I like the 8 lug acros. It can be tuned tight if you like without choking so easily. Plus you don't have to worry about Crome flaking off.

Dude, that snare looks baaaaaaad! (And by "bad" I mean freaking awesome!)

I never even though to try that - my Acro refurb looks like this:

Your = possessive - your stuff, your dog, your car, etc
    You're = you are - a contraction.

    Learn it. Love it.

Rad acro trickg! I think the tube lugs are classy! We should start a business and call it "trick yo acro"!

LOL! I like that idea! My thought when I did mine was that I wanted to try to make it look (at a quick, distant glance of course) like a Black Beauty. The original lugs were pretty trashed and the shell was dinged enough from having them screwed down tight, that I decided to rough-sand it and paint it. Black hammered metallic paint does a pretty nice job IMO. I like yours though and you can take yours back to original if you want - the black hoops really set off the mid 60s anodized finish.

Ok I must remember black hammered metallic paint for a future acro refurb. It looks great. It got the snare with original case and stand. The snare had all the original stock heads, throw off, and wires, along with rims, lugs, and baseball bat muffler. All original! I wanted to preserve it, and be able to play it, so I almost completely redid it. All thats original on it now is the shell, butt plate, and muffler. It turned out better than I hoped! Wasn't so sure if the black rims and tension rods would look good, but now I think it's what makes the look of the snare pop!

This is my small collection of Ludwig snare drums.
L to R My Supraphonic 400 I got with my Ludwig Hollywood set in 1971.
Unfortunately that set was destroyed in a club fire in 1980 and the snare was the only thing saved. It still sounds great though. I had toured extensively with that set.
The 6 1/2x14 I got a few weeks ago on CL for $50. It is considered a Supraphonic even though it has the Bowtie lugs. This was one of the last Chicago made snares. It is the Ludaloy Aluminum. It came with the anniversery sets they sold. I think they still make this model in steel at Monroe Factory. It resides on my studio kit. I have yet to take it apart and clean it properly. It sounds great too. The other Supraphonic was a replacement I got in 1980. and the Acrolite.
I have that Acrolite really tight. It sounds good with my little Sonar Safari Set I use for jazz.

I think you're getting snare strainer and snare wires confused. I consider a snare strainer the same as a snare throw off. The snare strainer puts strain on the snare wires. Yes, those wires did look kinda beat up.
