Default Stacking of drums: a problem?

I see lots of kits stacked, bottom to top - kick drum, floor tom, other toms, snare - sometimes quite high. Does all the weight stress the heads, to the point of permanent dimples or other damage? I realize it saves space, but I wonder if it ever does any harm over long term, say if you leave your drums like that for weeks/months. Has anybody ever recognized any damage in this to their heads?

Nope. There's not enough weight to do any damage. I've been stacking drums for years. It doesn't hurt anything. I would be more concerned with keeping drums in damp locations or extremely hot places.

If you plan to stack drums and leave them stacked for any length of time, make sure you do a good cleaning of any dust or debris that could be trapped in between the head and the bearing edges on the both batter and reso side. The trapped dust could eventually pit the bearing edges due to the weight.
