Drum solo, What drum solo? I never realy listen to it for more than a minute cause it was driving me insane LOL. Maybe I should pull out the album and listen to it and see how great of a drum solo t somewhere in that mess of music. LOL

But I still love their Metamorphosis album with soldier in our town, butterfly bleu, easy rider etc.

    This is the cover album

I am an old vintage drummer too and never appealed to me to play in a gadda da vida, never cause I hated that acid trip music. I would play wipe out more as it was the number one song that all people wanted a drummer to play. If you couldn't play wipe out then you were not a drummer.

An awesome album and song. It indeed was supposed to be In the Garden of Eden but the singer was high and couldn't enunciate.

The album was the first to go platinum, little known fact.

I have great memories of this song because I grew up on a farm in SW Minnesota with only one Top 40 radio station. Back in those days there weren't genre-based stations or oldies stations (the current songs then are today's oldies) and you would hear The Vogues followed by Iron Butterfly and the Doors followed by Herman's Hermits followed by ....Those were the days.

I really liked the keys. Nobody does that kind of rock organ anymore.

The fact that you need to be intoxicated to enjoy music from either of these 2 bands is very sad IMO.

Was as annoying to me as people yelling "free bird" now

I was in third grade when Mr. Meyers let us play this record after school one day. I was not high. I was not intoxicated. But I was memorized by this groundbreaking sound I was hearing. I drove my older sister crazy playing the drum beats on my thighs during car trips. I still had no thoughts about being a drummer, it just never occurred to me. But I was awakened to new musical possibilities and emotions I hadn't known were possible. Not everyone has to like it, but if you don't understand the place that song holds in the evolution of rock then I feel you have missed an important part of its history.

I never felt the need to be intoxicated to listen to those even though I didn't like a lot of Pink Floyd.

I guess it's the different tastes in music just like I know a lot of people here love metal, especially the grundge stuff, and I hate it . 10-15 seconds of that and I'm out the door!

My impression of the drum solo changed forever when the bass player in the band I was in, played it for me virtually note for note lol
After that, I wasn't impressed at all

So a piece of music needs to be technically difficult to be good?

Obviously not. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that that's what I meant. Wow.

Re-read what you said. Once your bassist showed you he could play it note for note, you were no longer impressed. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Drummer Ron Bushy in an interview said. I never play the same drum solo twice. I always change it.
    Also.
Playing bass for IB is like a death sentence. Three of the former bass player's died way to early.

That's interesting. It's like the bass spot is cursed or something.
