that I recently rehabed a vintage 14"X5" Chrome Sonor Snare? Took it down to pieces, cleaned and polished everything, did some minor (dremel) surgery on a couple of the internal parts of a couple of lugs, new heads, new snare. The sound is nothing short of AWESOME. I think I'm going to make this my primary snare with the new snare that comes with the kit as a secondary. The chrome snare is circa 1970 or so. Here's a few pix.

Q. So big snare wires like yours, what does it do for your snare drum sound? I have my Solid maple PDP snare, would it make any differance?

i think it would dry it out quite a bit.

This drum gives one heckuva snap with very little if any overtones - very dry. It just cracks when you hit it. I absolutely love it. It is now my primary for the new set and the one that came with the set is my secondary (although I'm awaiting a second snare stand that I ordered). Check out the pix of my NEW set!
