I don't think there's much difference between the two...I prefer the DD.

Both work the same but the DrumDial provides a spacer to keep the distance between the dial and the lug equal as you're tuning the head and the Tension Watch has no spacer and some have resorted using a coin to keep the distance between lug and the dial equal. If you decide to get the DrumDial, spend a few more to get the hard plastic case which comes with a piece of glass to calibrate it. If you can't afford the case, make sure you calibrate the dial on the flattest surface you can find before each use.
I use the TTW, but Rich is right. There's nothing on the dial itself to keep the distance consistent. I use 2 fingers between the dial and the hoop.
The spacer option makes it a easy choice IMHO!

I have the TTW and because I use EC2 heads this makes it easy to use the dial cause I just follow the Edge Control ring around the outside of the head which is the right distance for the TTW. Now if I was using any other head then I would difenitly have to use something.
I have a DD, and I just use a quarter or nickel. Easier and faster than adjusting the spacer, IMO, and easy to store!
