I sit more or less with my rear end right in the center.
I have a big old fat oversized Giblralter tracktor style seat with a backrest and I tend to sit Just a little back from the middle but I dont actually use the backrest truethfully 98% of the time I wouldent even notice if someone stole it.
so my drum instructor a couple weeks back says I should be sitting way further forward on my throne. he wants me just barely behind the point where im falling off the front. I was wondering where everyone else sits.

Sit were you are comfortable, dont worry about where your teacher thinks you should sit.
To answer your question, Ive never really noticed where my butt is exactly placed on the seat.
I have 3 Pork Pie round thrones, and I always sit towards the front of the seat, so it doesn't feel like my legs are hindered at all.

You sit where you are the most comfortable.
Unless you sit in some weird way, it shouldn't be your teachers concern.
Toward the front.
On my butt............I use a roc'n'soc and sit in the center...never thought about it before
i sit to the very front. just on it enough to hold me up
I have a Roc n Soc and I sit dead center on the seat which I find the most comfortable position. I also adjust the back rest forward so that I have to use it to in order to protect my back. No Phill Collins syndrome here.

I sit on the top. It seemed more comfortable than sitting on the feet.
Seriously, since I got the new throne with the lumbar support, I sit back further now - about dead center. That gives the lumbar support a chance to do it's job. I haven't noticed any problems with this newer position at all.

I think with the round-style, you have to sit further forward to allow your legs free movement. With the "motorcycle-style" I dont think it's necessary.

that actually kind of makes sense .. I think one of my problems is Im not 'big' enough to sit in a comfortable place to play and use the lumbar support on this huge throne .. might be shopping around for a new present for the toad this year .. keep the huge one around for a desk chair.

i have the same giblralter throne as you , i sit a touch to the front from center, and i only lean against the backrest between songs . i never use the backrest while im playing. but i agree with the above , sit how its the most comfortable for YOU , it shouldnt matter to your teacher how you sit.

I have the Roc & Soc and to me there is only one way to sit. Wherever your butt is comfortable to you.
towards the front, i have a mapex round throne.

I sit about the middle of the seat.

The center/back. Not to sound redundant but it helps me feel centered too, so that I can use proper posture a lot easier. Straight back, square shoulders, head up- these things are what saves you from pain and keeps you going hour after hour.

I sit so that my butt is on the edge of the front, so my legs don't actually come into contact with the throne at all. I guess I just adopted that style because I thought it would help my double kick playing. I actually don't know if it has made a difference for better or worse to be honest.
