Yeah, I've definitely know of those. As you said, pretty easy to play. Good score!
Gday guys,
So I was cleaning out my room yesterday and I pulled these out from under my bed -
They're called angklungs. Here's a bit of a blurb from Wikipedia about them -
My old high school music teacher has an octave worth of angklungs and she had a few duplicates, which she gave to me for free. They are pretty fun to play, I have to admit. I remember the day I got them, I had to walk home from school, which took about an hour. One of my classmates who lives close to me had to walk home too, so the whole time we were walking, we were just shaking these angklungs. Good timesThe Angklung is a musical instrument made of two bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame. The tubes are carved to have a resonant pitch when struck and are tuned to octaves. The base of the frame is held in one hand, whilst the other hand shakes the instrument rapidly. This causes a repeating note to sound. Each of three or more performers in an angkalung ensemble play just one note or more, but altogether complete melodies are produced. The Angklung is popular throughout Southeast Asia, but it originated in today's Indonesia and has been played by the Sundanese for many centuries
Hope you all enjoyed this

I'm intrigued. Is there any way to hear them?

The way they work is, through the top of the bamboo pipes, there's a stick which they hang from. When shook, the pipes swing and strike the sides of the slot in the horizontal bamboo piece at the bottom. The sound kinda resembles the the sound of a bamboo wind chime. I found a video demonstration of them. Be warned though, the blokes voice may put you to sleep lol.
And here's something absolutely incredible. A choir of angklungs playing 'We Are The Champions'.

Cool bit of history and explanation of how they work, and the performance video was exceptional! Thanks drumstix!

BE COUNTED!
I recently received one of these for a great price. It has 3 separate notes in a frame. It's a pretty cool effect and they don't seem to be available very often in the US. I had originally thought that each frame would only have one pitch, but apparently not because this one has 3 separate bars that make a chord when the whole instrument is shaken.
That choir video is amazing!
Man, I learned something new today! Thanks!
