Default New to me Yamaha Stage Customs

I sold my Catalina Maples (secondary kit) and was going to buy a used Meridian Birch till i heard these Yammies..WOW this may become my primary kit as well (currently saturns). It is Chestnut stain standard sizes, born on date of 9/98.

Bought them from original owner and they are immaculate. They sound great and confirms my suspicions that I am a Birch man even though these are Birch/mahogany/Falkata combo. They have ec2's on top and G2's on bottom and sound fat as all get out.

Also the unported bass drum is a nice surprise. Paid $350 for em (shellpack no snare) Not a steal but not a ripoff either. Guy got laid off last month and really needs money, I could have tried to haggle down but I am fortunate to have a job now and can afford it so why not.

    anyway onto the pics.

Absolutely love the finish, it appears to be some type of brushed/stained look that is just dynamite. I see this done a lot on tables and chairs, and really shows off the wood quite well. It looks flawless, no scratches, dings, and goes well with your throne too. Love the lug design, they should bring this version back. Appears to be a rare finish or else a custom job, congrats on finding it.

Great looking kit you got there!..based on the finish and mounting system (non-Yess) that kit was probably made in the late 90's..so it's also in really nice shape...

Thanks, it is almost flawless. I found one or 2 spots were it's dinged but you really have to look closely. Supposedly it is a finish that Yamaha offered in 98 but not sure how rare it is. Seems too me if they put this color on the new ones they would sell alot more.

Thank you..Not sure what yess is (new to Yamaha) but will look it up. It was bought by the original owner in 1999 and the numbers according to yamaha's website puts it at sept. 1998. He did a really nice job of keeping clean and spotless.

just one question, why did you get rid of the Cat Maples? im trying to score a used Cat 6 piece at my local GC, its price dropped to 449.00.
ive noticed lately alot of cats are getting rid of their Cats and im confused.

I really did not like the tom mounting system..GTS I think it's called. I found it hard to keep it in tune as well, although it was used so maybe that had someting to do with it. But I would tune it using a torque key then play 1 song and check it and it was wayyyy loose. This included the bass drum as well.

When it stayed in tune it was nice but like I have said I have recently concluded that I prefer Birch. The guys I play with did comment that they liked the sound of it but they also noticed the detuning. I probably could have bought new lugs but that gts system is just not for me and I personally will never buy another kit with it.

I agree with RHD. That's a really beautiful kit MDK, and even more so because of the compassion for someone down on their luck. Well done sir!

LOL, I know. I did not notice it till I put it next to that kit..Such a pain to keep that old supra clean. I would love to find a matching snare for it but nothing on e-bay.

Thanks everyone, played it for about an hour today and somehow like it even more.

Yes...Yamaha offered that finish in the late 90's, maybe through 2001...I believe it was called chestnut brown...
